We were spared in our neighborhood but my heart aches and my eyes well up with tears watching the coverage of the damage. Our storm warning systems are so important. The technology of texts, phone calls and alerts help in rural areas and urban areas where sirens don't exist, fail or can't be heard by all. There are just minutes to take shelter from a tornado. Bill Paxton's character in Twister addressed his passion for studying storms because of his aunt who died without a warning.
As our tour guides, who I consider ambassadors of our city, worked with visitors in the aftermath, said, "It was a moment to show our vulnerability but also our hardiness, grit, and compassion as St. Louisans working immediately to recover while mourning."

Today I am with a family who I took on tour 4 years ago when their daughter was considering my alma mater, WashU Washington University in St. Louis. Now they have returned with more family members for a city tour before her graduation. It's so nice to know the rest of the story.
And today I noticed the hologram flag hanging here in the Gateway Arch Museum. French, Spanish then American as you move past. History flows, life moves forward and we are often merely a witness to the journey.

I am so deeply saddened to loose a friend, tour guide, and author. I have posted The Hill Book cover to memorialize my closest work with LynnMarie in publishing. I worked on the prologue for her and did a read through before publication. We worked together on tours. She led tours for me during the pandemic. But most of all, she was a friend who had shared interests in books, history and this wonderful neighborhood. She will be sorely missed by me and many of the community.
