AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) Courses & Exams — Fall 2026
If you take other people climbing—professionally or recreationally—the AMGA Single Pitch Instructor program is an excellent way to strengthen your technical skills, improve your rope management, and become a more efficient and thoughtful climbing leader.
The SPI program is also a great fit for experienced climbers who simply want to expand their technical toolbox. Strong rope-management skills help you better manage risk, solve problems more efficiently, and spend less time managing systems and more time climbing.
I have two upcoming AMGA SPI Course & Exam cycles this fall:
📍 Devil’s Lake, Wisconsin Hosted by Devil’s Lake Climbing Guides - SPI Exam: September 30–October 1 - SPI Course: October 2–4
Visit: https://www.devilslakeclimbingguides.com/courses/instructor-training
📍 Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, Arkansas- SPI Exam: November 11–12 -SPI Course: November 13–15
Visit: https://verticalvoyages.com/amga-certification/
Space is limited to just 6 students/candidates per course or exam, so I encourage you to register early if you’re interested.
Whether you guide professionally, take friends and family climbing, lead trips for an organization, or simply want to become a stronger and more capable climber, the SPI program offers a great opportunity to refine your systems and learn proven approaches to single-pitch climbing instruction and management.
Have questions about the program, prerequisites, or whether the SPI is a good fit for you? Reach out to me. I’m always happy to talk climbing and help you determine if the program is right for you.
