Our last two days on board Avalon Artistry II on the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers in the Bordeaux region of France took us to back to our starting point in the city of Bordeaux.

We sailed from Libourne to Bordeaux in the morning and upon docking were stoked to see a huge farmers market set up on the pier. We spent some time wandering there, having a lunch of fresh oysters from a local vendor, and spending some time walking through the town. In the afternoon we took a private pastry class with my fellow travel agent buddies and spouses. Funnily enough, our chef, Daniel, is originally from Kansas City. He taught us to make caneles and gateau basques.

On our last full day, we did an optional excursion out to the seaside town of Arcachon, where we visited with a local oyster farmer and had a lunch at a cute little beach view restaurant.

That evening we opted to dine off the ship at L’Entrecote, a local steak frites restaurant in Bordeaux, to celebrate my birthday. That was such a fabulous experience. There are only three things on their menu—you get a salad, steak cooked as you like it and pre-sliced with a fabulous sauce, and fries. Delish! 🤤

We had such great experience immersing ourselves in Bordeaux, sailing with Avalon Waterways 🇫🇷

Day 3 and 4 onboard Avalon Artistry II took us to Bourg/Blaye and Libourne on the Dordogne. We visited a winemaker and just an overall unique character Leslie Kellen in Blaye, then traveled up river to Libourne and the St Emilion wine region for a chocolate and wine pairing experience.

We’ve had two full days on board Avalon Artistry II, sailing the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers in the Bordeaux region of France. Day 1 visited the Sauternes region known for sweet wines, and day 2 visited the Margaux region known for red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon. 🍷

We spent 48 hours exploring Paris before heading to Bordeaux in preparation to board our Avalon river cruise ship. The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, macarons— we only scratched the surface of this beautiful city.

I'm traveling to a new-to-me country this weekend, spending a couple of days touring the capital city of that country, then taking a train to that country's wine region to join a week long river cruise aboard an Avalon river cruise ship. This could be a few different countries in Europe. Where do you think I'm going? I've got a few of the lesser known landmark photos of this famous capital city included as a hint.

Want a couple more hints?

🇫🇷 The largest museum in the world is here and is in a building that was formerly a palace. A famous (and surprisingly small) piece of art is housed here, which was stolen in 1911 and recovered 2 years later.

🇫🇷 A devastating fire significantly damaged it's famous cathedral, but it was recently restored and reopened as beautiful as ever.

🇫🇷 It's technically illegal to publish photos or videos of it's most famous landmark at night because its light show is copyrighted. That landmark was constructed for the 1889 World's Fair, and it's architect also had a hand in the Statue of Liberty's engineering and construction.

Now make your best guess--where am I going?

**And on that note -- I need to advise that I'll be "out of office" from April 11-21. Any new travel requests or vacation payments that come during my time away will be handled once I'm back at my desk on April 22. Please know that given the time difference and my schedule, I'll be slow to respond to emails.

Let's talk Mexico Travel! 🇲🇽

I know the current information floating around Facebook and TikTok regarding travel to Mexico can be alarming and confusing. Please know that a lot of this information is just simply WRONG, and I urge you to check with credible government sources when it comes to obtaining the facts--the US Department of State and the US Embassy in Mexico are 2 excellent sources for factual, updated information. Please don't get your news from TikTok. 😏

Here is the latest and FINAL security advisory released by the US Embassy in Mexico yesterday, essentially stating that the normal levels of precaution should be observed throughout Mexico. All airports are open and resuming normal operations. https://mx.usembassy.gov/security-alert-final-update-ongoing-security-operations-u-s-mission-mexico-february-25-2026/

🌎 I also think it's important to understand geography.

📍 Puerto Vallarta, where the majority of the cartel retaliation took place is on the Pacific side of Mexico. This is about 1200 miles as the crow flies, and about 30 hours of drive time from Cancun over on the Caribbean side. This is equivalent to the distance between Las Vegas and Atlanta in the US.

For about 24 hours on Sunday night/Monday morning there WAS a temporary shelter-in-place order put into effect for the Cancun and Riviera Maya region out of an abundance of caution. Cancun was given the all clear early Monday afternoon, and the region returned to "business as usual", which continues today. People are flying into and out of the Cancun airport and are enjoying their Cancun vacations as planned. 🏖️🍹☀️

I have around 50 people either currently in or scheduled to travel to Cancun over the next 3 weeks. I've touched base with all of them, answering questions, providing facts, etc. Only 2 of my travelers have decided not to travel at this point. If ANYTHING changes regarding the safety of travel to Cancun or there are any updated advisories released by the US Government, I will share those with my clients and we can discuss their travel plans further.

Your comfort and confidence in your travels matter to me. If you have questions about upcoming travel to Mexico, please reach out — I’m always happy to talk it through.💛
