SAVE AND SHARE 📌 Tucked away in Northwest Colorado, our neighbor Moffat County holds some of the most dramatic untouched landscapes in the American West. Canyon walls carved over millions of years, families of big horn sheep, and quiet stretches through Dinosaur National Monument make this an ultimate taste of Colorado.

Last week, we were so lucky to join Visit Moffat County on a 4 day, 3 night raft trip. It began at the Gates of Lodore (where lots of other recreational opportunities await) and carved into the heart of Dinosaur National Monument. Towering red sandstone walls rise over 800 feet above the water, marking the exact spot where Powell’s expedition navigated these waters over 150 years ago.

Floating through this terrain is a powerful reminder of how expansive Colorado really is once you venture off the beaten path. From mountain air in Routt County to deep canyon county in Moffat, this region offers an unforgettable wilderness escape. If you are seeking ways to experience this incredible landscape for yourself, we’ve dropped some recommendations below!

High-country temperatures are finally cooling down, which means prime hiking for you and your dog! 🐶 Before you hit the dirt to enjoy that crisp mountain air, keep these quick tips in mind:

🫎 Give Wildlife Space: Keep dogs close to prevent unexpected encounters with moose or bears.
🦮 Respect Leash Laws: Protect local flora, wildlife, and fellow hikers by sticking to posted rules.
🐏 Know how to handle livestock protection dogs: If you encounter sheep or cattle herds on open rangeland, working guard dogs may be present to protect them. Keep your dog on a short leash, give the livestock a wide berth, and never let your dog chase or bark at the herd. Speak in a calm, firm voice to let the guard dog know you are human, and walk away slowly without making sudden movements or running.
💩 Leave No Trace: Always bag and carry out your dog's waste.

Born out of late-1800s ranch life when local cowboys gathered near the Yampa River for friendly wagers and bronco busting, the Steamboat Springs rodeo officially became the legendary Cowboys’ Roundup Days in 1927.

Today, the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series lights up Friday and Saturday nights under the summer sunsets of Emerald Mountain. It brings world-class PRCA cowboys, local ranching families, and visitors together to celebrate true Western history! There is only three weekends left for the Pro Rodeo this summer, so if you haven't witnessed this fantastic spectacle, time is running out.
