Check out Skipper’s Inn for your place to stay. We are booking already so don’t miss out!
SCALLOPING SEASON , it may seem a little early to talk about scalloping season but if you are thinking about coming this year here are a few pointers. You would be suprised how many people have already booked their places to stay and how difficult it becomes to find a place the closer season gets. Finding a place to stay is more difficult than finding a guide so I suggest finding a place then finding your guide.I dont mind assisting with this process, I will always suggest contacting the Seahag Marina first but if they are not available we can go from there. Holiday weekends are great for those who love the crowds, Steinhatchee will have live music almost everywhere and its a good time , if you arent one of those people I would dodge them like the plague because Steinhatchee knows how to party. On my online calendar I have blocked the days that I feel are too crowded so if the day is available on my calendar its not unsafe in my opinion. Do a little research before you book a guide, everybody was new once and thats not normally the issue but not everyone is perfect for everyone. Its pretty disrespectful to book a guide for one trip then plan to follow them for the rest of your time here, thats how they make a living. A guide is worth it I assure you. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay a safe distance from other boats and people, 100 yards minimum. There is no reason to get close to other people on the water, the flats of Steinhatchee are HUGE and there are scallops in more than one spot I assure you. Check the limits for your time here, in the beginning of season there is a reduced limit so make sure you check. A 5 gallon bucket filled all the way to the top is well over 5 gallons of scallops, the 5 gallon line is normally about the height where the handle attaches. Most importantly have fun and be respectful to others. Scalloping is a awesome thing to do here in Florida and especially with friends and family. Here at Marker One we take pride in our ability to make the most out of a day of scalloping and are thankful for those that give us the chance to prove it.
Much Love From Steinhatchee,
