Good morning! It’s a beautiful sunny morning down on Dyer Bay. After several months of anxiously waiting for snow to melt and Spring to arrive, the ferns are poking up through the forest floor, birds are chirping, waves are lapping the shore and more importantly, the crew is starting work on the driveway and foundation of our vacation rental on the coast. There is no such thing as a weekend for contractors and we are so grateful for them.

Day 1: Construction has officially started on The Maine Mooring and we are so damn excited.

It’s gorgeous. Get outside today.

And just like that, the snow is gone and Spring is here on the bay. More sunshine please. ☀️

Very few things keep you burning both ends of the candle like running a small business. Over the last fourteen years, Jason and I became masters at it as we juggled two kids, simultaneously running two small businesses, numerous military deployments and all the stuff that goes in between. Somewhere along the way, busy and complicated became our normal. Take it from us, there is no glory in burnout. While we recognized the toll all our hard work and sacrifices were taking, we didn’t realize the extent until we signed on the dotted line and sold our business the end of last month. Going from 60+ hour work weeks, managing a staff of twenty, and juggling 55 vendors to being unemployed is like going from 90 to 20 mph and is a bit of a shock to the system.

We’ve had three weeks to start to decompress, reprioritize, and adjust to our new normal. While we aren’t there yet, we are slowly making our way back to center and refocusing on us, our family, our future, and what lights our souls on fire. We are excited that it includes The Mooring.

We had actively been looking for waterfront property since 2015. Last year the stars aligned and we finally purchased our three acres on the coast of Maine.

As things got stressful this winter with the impending sale of the store, we would find ourselves driving to the lot to walk the shoreline and ground ourselves in the silence and salty ocean air. In the most turbulent times of transition, this property was our mooring and kept us grounded and sane. And that, is how she got her name. It’s also why we feel compelled to share our getaway with others once it’s completed.

Construction on The Mooring will begin this Spring and, once complete, will be available for others to rent and enjoy when they need to find their own way back to slow and simple.

We hope you follow along to see all the beautiful and exciting things we have planned at The Mooring. It’s been a labor of love, determination, and sacrifice and it will surely be worth the wait.

Here’s to slow and simple,
Jamie & Jason

We stopped by Dyer Bay today to walk the property with prospective contractors. Crossing all our fingers and toes we may have found our team.🤞

While we are giddy with excitement, we realize we’re in the not so sexy stage of building which is full of permits and planning and contracts and waiting and more planning. Nothing shiny and exciting for the social media feed.

When we were leaving we looked down the winding driveway to the glimpses of the waterfront, our waterfront, and then stopped to find the picture we took in the same spot only two months ago. Wow. We did that.

We’ve been dreaming and working hard and saving for this for years. There were times we thought it might never happen but it sure is going to be worth the wait.

You’re reminder to GET OUTSIDE.

Had a rough start to the week so we headed down to Dyer Bay to breathe in the salty air and watch the ice fall from the trees. Our little babbling brook was a bonus. Feeling better. xo

Step one of construction is complete. The lot is cleared but still filled with beautiful healthy trees and a spectacular view of the ocean. Soon you’ll be able to wake up in bed in the waterfront bunkhouse to this. This is ours. How is this our life? Someone pinch us.

An extra big thank you to the amazing crew of Gunnett Tree and Land care LLC for the speedy job but also taking such care with their work. It shows and we are so grateful.

Happy New Year everyone! As many of you may have seen on our personal FB pages, Jason and I have been on the hunt for a waterfront property for years now. (That's years, PLURAL. Over six years to be exact). After a long and exhaustive search, we are happy to say in November of 2022 with the help of our favorite realtor EVAH, Louie Morrison (and Nicole) at Morrison & Company, our dream of owning our own piece of the Maine coast became a reality.

Our list of must haves for a property was long but this one checked-off every single one.

Deep Water - check
Rocky but walkable coastline - check
Private & tranquil setting - check
Short drive to Acadia - check
Reasonable price - check

We closed on the lot on November 29th and have already been busy creating a social presence, clearing the lot (thank you Gunnett Tree and Land care LLC!!!) and starting to design the build. You know...amongst shuttling kids, running a business, finishing unfinished home renovations, and surviving the holidays. Nothing to see here, right? haha

Anywho - the lot we purchased is just shy of three acres with over 200 feet of coastline in Steuben. It is located in a subdivision, off a private road on the shores of Dyer Bay and it is SO peaceful and quiet there. Yes, those are actual aerial shots of the lot. It truly is breathtaking. We are calling it The Maine Mooring and it's just over an hour drive from our house in Bangor but is only 29 minutes to Downtown Ellsworth, 17 minutes to Tidal Falls, 15 minutes to Schoodic Point and Winter Harbor, 50 minutes to Downtown Bar Harbor and close to Tunk Lake, Downeast Sunrise ATV trails and miles of hiking trails in the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge across the bay. Saying we love it doesn't begin to do it justice.

The girls are getting older (Taylor graduates next year and Liv has five years before she is out of high school), so our plan is to build a main cabin and two bunkhouses on the property and rent it out as a vacation rental when we are not using it. Long term, it will likely be the place we keep here in Maine after the girls have left the nest.

We'll be posting here and to our account on Instagram with updates so if you are interested in following along on this new adventure and watching the build...you know what to do.

We envision a very large friends and family style lobster bake there to celebrate when it's done.

Can you feel our excitement?
Jason & Jamie
