I am not perfect!
Can you see what is wrong with this labyrinth?
I've been making portable labyrinths professionally for 27 years, but never before have I made this mistake or one that I had to remake. This is what happens when you rush a project and don't check your work! Thankfully, the client allowed me to make her a new labyrinth at no cost and I sent along a return shipping label to get this one back. I'll try to fix it enough to add to my rentals fleet. The lesson learned - always double check the path before painting.😵‍💫

The new community labyrinth at New Salem Lutheran in Turtle River, MN

It gives us great delight to say our labyrinth is finished and ready for everyone to stop by and use! Walk this path, follow the circles, meditate, and pray beneath the pines. This is for the whole community, so please enjoy while the kids play on our playground too!

An article in the Bemidji Pioneer newspaper about our recent labyrinth project:

Nearly three dozen church members joined BSU graduate Lisa Moriarty, who is unofficially known as the Labyrinth Lady, to build a labyrinth on Sunday at New Salem Lutheran in Turtle River.

Two hours on Saturday to lay out a labyrinth pattern with flags and surveyor tape. On Sunday morning, in 35 minutes with 35 volunteers moving rocks in fireman brigade style, the labyrinth is finished.

Photos are difficult as the labyrinth winds through a grove of white pine trees, soft needles form the cushioned pathway. Barely a dent was made in the pile of stones.

The new prayer path resides at New Salem Lutheran Church in Turtle River, MN, and is open to the public.

I'm looking forward to a fun labyrinth project in Turtle River, MN, building a labyrinth path that winds through a grove of white pine trees.

I receive many inquiries asking for a template to build a labyrinth. One fellow from North Carolina thought he needed one to make a rope labyrinth in his yard.

I told him all he needed was rope a yardstick and some easy instructions, which I provided. Here is his response:

“The labyrinth is done! My brother in law took over the project and put it together today. So funny he's not familiar with labyrinths but his curiosity is now peaked.
Thank you so much for incredibly clear instructions. Having all that was needed on hand made it a breeze.”

I’ve had a fabulously busy and creative labyrinth construction season and it isn’t even July yet! So, more to come.

My work in just the last 2 1/2 months includes new labyrinths from coast to coast and represents a variety of methods and locations:

In Richmond, VA, we painted a labyrinth on a new concrete circle for an upscale senior living community.

A labyrinth made with native grass paths bordered by beds of wild strawberries was installed in time for World Labyrinth Day at Memorial Lutheran Church in Afton, MN.

In Tacoma, WA, I provided detailed consultation in the install process, offered a pattern, detailed measurements and calculated needed materials for an Eagle Scout project to successfully complete.

In rural Balsam Lake, WI, we helped to mow a large 85-foot Chartres labyrinth into the prairie grasses at a private farmstead retreat. This was done under the watchful eyes of a family of common garter snakes living in the pile of large boulders that form the center of the labyrinth.

In South Minneapolis, at the location where the Metro Surge ICE operation occurred (just 5 blocks from where Renee Good was killed and the 2020 George Floyd murder) a simple and much needed community peace and healing labyrinth was painted on asphalt. Informational welcome signs will be added soon inviting the greater community.

In Nashville, TN, we worked with a group of high school volunteers from Catholic Heart Workcamp digging and embedding pavers in the turf to create a Circle of Peace labyrinth at the Historic First Community Church where Healing Minds & Souls serves those suffering from trauma, as well as feeding the wider community in need.

In two weeks I’ll be in Northern Minnesota marking out a labyrinth and helping a congregation to place boulders to outline the paths of pine needles as it winds through a grove of White Pine trees.

My canvas work continues between outdoor installations. A 36-foot Chartres style painted in the school colors of gold and red just shipped off to Loyola Academy Jesuit College Prep School in Illinois, representing one of 17 orders so far this year.

It is a blessing to continue to do the work I love. My heart is dancing!

A Strawberry Patch Labyrinth!

Many decades ago Memorial Lutheran Church in Afton, MN, celebrated an annual Strawberry Festival. The event became so popular that the city of Afton took it over and it has morphed into a 2-day long event.

Memorial Lutheran is reclaiming its strawberry heritage by installing a labyrinth with wild strawberry plants dividing the paths.

We marked off the pattern today, hundreds of plants have been reclaimed, are already blooming and will be planted later this week. It will take several months for the installation and nurturing of fescue grass paths and other native plants that will surround the labyrinth. More to come as the project progresses. A great way to celebrate World Labyrinth Day with a new labyrinth!
