It is truly unfortunate to witness the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a man who stood so boldly on the front lines of justice for decades. For more than thirty years, I have made the pilgrimage to Selma, Alabama, and over that time I have watched, one by one, our great civil rights generals fade from public view. These were not just leaders we saw on television — they were warriors for equality whom many of us had the honor to meet, shake hands with, and thank personally.

I was blessed to interact with Rev. Joseph Lowery and his gracious wife, with the fearless Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, the passionate Hosea Williams, the courageous John Lewis, and of course Rev. Jackson himself. To stand in their presence in Selma was to stand in walking, living history. These were individuals who endured beatings, jail cells, threats, and sacrifice so that generations after them could vote, lead, and live with dignity.

As time moves forward, we are reminded that we are now the witnesses. We are the carriers of the torch. On Sunday, March 8, 2026, buses will depart from Stone Mountain, Georgia to Selma for the 61st Selma March. This is more than a trip — it is a responsibility.

If you have not yet made your “Footsteps into History,” now is the time to March for BLACK PRIDE again. March for those who can no longer march. March so that future generations understand the price that was paid.
