This weekend on Sam Rayburn Reservoir was nothing short of powerful. 🇺🇸
The Wounded Warrior Bonfire Event kicked off Thursday night with a warm welcome and a brisket dinner shared among veterans, captains, and supporters—setting the tone for a weekend built on camaraderie, gratitude, and respect.
Friday morning, the boats hit the water. Rowdy Slaughter had the honor of fishing alongside Robbie Gass of Lake Guntersville, Alabama and Robbie went on to land the big bass of the day. But his story goes far beyond the catch.
Robbie was injured in Iraq after helping safely evacuate a small village. While returning, his unit was ambushed—facing unimaginable danger, including a su***de bomber. These men fought their way out with courage and grit, but Robbie sustained severe head injuries in the process. His presence this weekend is a testament to resilience, sacrifice, and the unbreakable spirit of our veterans.
That evening, everyone came together for a classic Louisiana-style crawfish boil—laughter, stories, and brotherhood filling the air.
Saturday brought another day on the water, bass fishing on the legendary Sam Rayburn—a bucket-list lake for many of these veterans.
That night, the group gathered for a fish fry followed by the annual bonfire. In a deeply moving ceremony, stories were shared of fallen brothers, and the flag was respectfully stripped—honoring not just the symbol, but the freedom, sacrifice, and unity it represents.
And today, the weekend continues with crappie fishing—one more day of peace on the water, where healing and connection happen naturally.
Weekends like this remind us what truly matters. 🇺🇸
