The demolition derby has an opening act…
and they have an early bedtime! 🏎️💥

Before the engines roar and the metal starts flying at Patrick County Demolition Derby, this Saturday, August 29 - we’re letting the smallest drivers in town take over the arena.

The Kiddie Power Wheels Derby is the pre-show you absolutely do NOT want to miss — tiny cars, determined little drivers, and enough bumper-to-bumper chaos to get the crowd warmed up for the real thing.

Dolly Parton spent her life reminding us that where you come from doesn’t have to determine how far you can dream. 🩷📚

Maybe that’s part of why her story has always felt so at home here in Patrick County—a place where mountain roots run deep, neighbors still look out for neighbors, and we believe in giving our children every chance to grow into whatever dreams are waiting for them.

Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, that belief became something beautifully simple: a book in the hands of a child.

Month after month, children right here in Patrick County open their mailboxes to find a book with their name on it—a story to read at bedtime, a world they haven’t explored yet, and perhaps the beginning of a lifelong love of reading.

There’s a little window of time at the county fair when everything feels like a memory before it’s even over: Golden hour. ✨🎡

The sun starts to sink low behind the mountains, spilling gold across the midway. The Ferris wheel turns slowly against a September sky. For a moment, it feels like you could be eight years old again with a pocket full of tickets and nowhere else in the world you need to be.

That’s the magic of the fair.

The rides change. The years pass. The kids grow up. But somehow, when those midway lights flicker on beneath a golden Patrick County sky, it all feels wonderfully familiar.

Like September remembered exactly how we left it. 💛
