Summer’s green is slowly giving way to autumn’s gold at Lover’s Leap Scenic Overlook.

In Meadows of Dan, Virginia, the changing seasons give us every reason to pull over, linger a little longer, and watch the mountains turn.

These mountains hold an old legend, too. Local folklore tells of Morning Flower, a Native American chief’s daughter, and a colonist’s son who met in secret and fell in love. Their story ended tragically at these cliffs, giving Lover’s Leap its name—a tale still told alongside this sweeping mountain view.

Come Visit Patrick County, VA and take the scenic route into fall! 🍂

🍂 A LITTLE FALL BREAK, A LITTLE FRESH AIR, A WHOLE LOT OF FARM FUN.

Looking for something to do with the kids this Tuesday? Doerunfarmvirginia in Ararat is open October 13 from 1–7 PM, and this absolutely beautiful fall weather coupled with a day off school calls for an afternoon outside!

Celebrating 20 years of fall memories, the farm has plenty to fill your afternoon:

🌻 Explore the sunflower maze
🚜 Take a hayride through the farm.
🎃 Find the pumpkin that belongs on your front porch.
🥧 Treat yourself to fried apple pies and crisp mountain apples.

Join the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department’s 2026 Octoberfest on Saturday, October 10, from 10 AM–4 PM! Settle in for some of the area's best bluegrass and live music:

🎶 The Friday Night Dance Band

BBQ chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, drinks, and bake sale treats will be available to purchase. And if all goes to plan, Woolwine’s famous apple butter will be ready for its next assignment: your morning biscuit. 🍎

Bring a chair—or borrow one of ours—and some cash to support the fire department. Woolwine will supply the reasons to stay awhile. 🤎

🍎 THIS IS HOW OCTOBERFEST STARTS IN WOOLWINE.

Before the kettles start bubbling, there are a whole lot of apples to peel!

Join the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department Wednesday, October 8, from 8 AM–8 PM for Apple Peeling Day, when neighbors come together to peel and prep the apples that will become the homemade apple butter sold at Octoberfest.

Pull up a chair, grab an apple and stay awhile. There’ll be vegetable soup, delicious desserts, good stories and probably a Band-Aid or two.

✨ Bring a paring knife + dishpan
🤎 Come for an hour or stay all day
🙌 Everybody’s welcome

Then come back Saturday, October 10, from 10 AM–4 PM for Octoberfest—the biggest fundraiser of the year! Get a jar or three of apple butter, grab some lunch, listen to bluegrass, dance a little and enjoy a fall Saturday in Woolwine. 🍂 🎻
