UNIQUE! 🌍
The Wuppertal Schwebebahn in Germany is the world’s oldest electric suspension railway still in operation. It began service on March 1, 1901.
This incredible suspended railway is not only a historic marvel but still operates perfectly today, gliding smoothly above the city carrying approximately 85,000 passengers daily along its 13.3 km route.

This unique “upside-down” train system was designed by engineer Eugen Langen and constructed between 1897 and 1903. The railway’s cars are suspended from a single rail built underneath a supporting steel frame, allowing them to glide above the city and the Wupper River. The Schwebebahn has become an iconic symbol of Wuppertal, much like the Eiffel Tower is for Paris.
