Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿: Food Edition, featuring 2 Scottish classics. First up, Haggis. For some, even the idea of haggis may be off putting. But a staple that’s been around for hundreds of years has to have something to it, right? We decided to see how many different ways to try it. The answer was 6 and all were quite tasty! Second, Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was our duty to see how many we could try in a week and a half, purely for scientific comparison purposes 😉. We never had a bad one. Being adventurous eaters in a new place can bring great rewards!

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Day 10: Edinburgh. I love this city, particularly the architectural style that reflects its deep history. Spend a day or more walking its streets. Old Town features the Royal Mile running from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood House. Climb Arthur’s Seat for amazing views. Wander through Dean Village in New Town. Have a drink at The World’s End Pub which sits at the site of the former gates of the city built back in 1513. Safety was inside the gates so the residents considered it the end of the world. Wherever you go in Edinburgh, you find something new to love.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Day 9: Any Outlander fans out there? There are several Outlander filming locations to visit, all within an hour of Edinburgh. Doune Castle, used as Castle Leoch. Culross, used as Cranesmuir. Interior areas of Culross Palace were also featured. And third, Midhope Castle, Outlander’s Lallybroch.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Day 8: If you’re like me, I love to jump into a destination and see and do everything I can, constantly on the go. I have started building in a “nothing day”, slow paced with not much planned. Day 8 was that day. A stop at Balmoral Castle, Queen Elizabeth’s favorite residence. We toured the gardens and the ballroom, all that was available that day. Other parts of the castle have tours on special dates. Rainy weather made an easy choice to book some time at the hotel spa. Luckily for us, we were in Pitlochry on a Monday, meaning we were able to follow the Vale Atholl Pipe Band through town to their Highland Night. This is a 60 year tradition of highland music and dancing.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Days 6 and 7: Inverness. Considered to be the capital of the Highlands, Inverness reached city status in 2000. Locals, however, still refer to it as a town. Small enough to be walkable but large enough to offer a little something for everyone. Shops, restaurants, museums and a castle. The area also boasts must see places. Including Culloden Battlefield, the site of the famous battle between the Jacobites and the British army in 1746, which decimated the Jacobites and effectively ended the Clan way of life. Clava Cairns is nearby the battlefield and is a collection of stone circles built thousands of years ago, primarily used for burial sites. There’s also Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle. Jacobite Cruises offers a wonderful loch cruise and time to explore the castle ruins.

Today in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿: Hairy Coos! Right near the shore of Loch Ness is Quila Cridhe tearoom. Here you can enjoy tea with an opportunity to have a meet and greet with some friendly (and hungry) coos. A fun way to spend an afternoon.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Days 4 and 5: Isle of Skye. A 3 hour drive from Glencoe brought us to Portree on the Isle of Skye. Portree is a cute harbor town with an easily walkable downtown area with plenty of shops and restaurants. It’s also an excellent base for exploring Skye. We drove the Trotternish Loop. So many beautiful places! We hiked the Old Man of Storr, enjoyed a latte with a view, visited Kilt Rock, explored Duntulum Castle ruins and saw lots of sheep. Day 5 brought rain but didn’t stop a visit to Eilean Donan Castle.

Days 2 and 3 in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿: Glencoe Valley. Leaving Glasgow, we headed to the Highlands by way of Luss Village and Loch Lomond to our base in Glencoe. Green mountains and lochs surround small towns and friendly people. Glencoe is centrally located and a great choice for exploring this region.

Day 1 in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿: Glasgow cityscapes. With 24 hours here, we explored a city with an interesting mix of architecture. Beautiful, old historic buildings stand right next to modern office towers. They are many pedestrian only green spaces that are perfect for a stroll among shops or to sit and enjoy a coffee and conversation.
