Susan's Great Escapes

Susan's Great Escapes Travel Advisor with Upon a Star Travel & Concierge. Helping you travel to world-wide destinations! Travel is my full-time job!

After 25 years as a military spouse, I now live in Virginia with my family. Since 2013, I have been helping clients plan all kinds of vacations: Disney destinations, cruises, all-inclusive resorts, Universal Studios, guided tours, and travel all over the world! My goal is to create a concierge experience for my clients that meets their individual requests, budgets, and vacation style. Each person

and family's travel goals are unique and their travel experiences should be, too! This is not a hobby or a side-gig for me. I love building long-standing relationships with my clients working with them repeatedly over the years, watching their families grow and change. I've traveled to 30 countries, cruised more than 20 times on a variety of cruise lines, visited many all-inclusive resorts, and racked up thousands in airline miles! I want to share my knowledge and experience with my clients by providing excellent customer service, detailed itineraries, and creating the best vacation experience possible.

Beautiful morning exploring Chateau Boutinet w**ery in Libourne, France. Thor, the sheep guardian, greeted us before our tour and tasting!

Merci, Nathalie et Jerome!

First night onboard included a delicious dinner (such a pretty appetizer!) and lovely sunset in Bordeaux. Days are supposed to be quite warm, but it cools off quickly at night and relaxing on the top deck is pleasant!

Take a look at our lower level room on the piano deck of the AmaDolce. This ship has French balcony staterooms and lower level rooms with the small windows. We chose to do this stateroom type and spend our money elsewhere. Still plenty of storage and all the perks!

However you choose to cruise, AmaWaterways is a great option for river exploration!

We chose a lower level stateroom for this cruise putting our money to use elsewhere! This ship only has these staterooms or French balcony staterooms, but truly…it only takes seconds to be up on the top deck!

However you choose to sail, AmaWaterways is a great option!

Take a look at the Brightline train in Florida and why this could be the ideal option for your family for your next cruise!

On disembarkation day from our recent agency cruise, my wife and I had the opportunity to try something new—we took the Brightline train from Miami to Orlando!

Things I learned today at CDG airport.

When you connect to another city, they want to scan your follow on boarding pass—not your arrival boarding pass. Except no one tells you that, so everyone is confused.

Connecting in CDG means going back through security again which requires all liquids to come out of your bags. There are no signs telling you that! Lesson learned there! (I have precheck and Clear at home, so I never have to do this departing the US and just didn’t think about needing to do it to connect!)

At least in our terminal, EES kiosks were not being used. We were sent through the regular E-gates which was actually quick and painless.

So, in summary:

Be prepared to remove all liquids when connecting. 🤦‍♀️

Who knows if you’ll use EES or not at your arrival airport in Europe! 😂

Have connecting boarding passes ready when connecting. (I realize that seems logical now, but it did not after a 7-hour overnight flight!)

But we’re in France. 🇫🇷 Waiting for our connection to Bordeaux.

Ready for a glass of w**e and a nap. Not necessarily in that order.
