Big Plans for Sumas Community Days! 🎡
Spring is right around the corner, which means the Sumas Chamber has begun planning for Community Days! Given everything our resilient town has endured recently, we are more excited than ever to bring everyone together.

With that being said, we want to be mindful of our neighbors. The Chamber doesn't feel it is right to ask our local businesses and community members to fund a fireworks show this year while many are still in a season of recovery. To be clear: we aren't ditching fireworks forever! We fully intend to revisit the display next year once our local economy has had more time to recoup and thrive.

In the meantime, we have a secret up our sleeves...
Something New is Coming! 🤫
Instead of fireworks, we are hosting a one-of-a-kind evening event that has never been done before in Sumas!

Family-Friendly: Designed to bring joy to all ages.

Support Local: This new format is specifically designed to keep the festivities accessible to our local shops and eateries, giving them more opportunity to benefit from the evening's crowds.

A New Tradition: We are working hard to ensure this is a memorable, "must-see" experience that honors the spirit of our town.
We are still moving forward with our beloved traditions in the park, including corn hole, vendors, and the parade. Keep an eye out for sign-ups coming soon!

We can’t wait to celebrate with you on June 26-27!

Our hearts break for all of our neighbors whose homes and businesses were ravaged by floodwaters again last week. If you are a victim of last week's flood and still need a Christmas tree--whether yours was damaged in the flood or you just hadn't put one up yet--please stop in to pick up a Christmas tree at no charge. If you're close to a flood victim who would be blessed by a new Christmas tree, please stop in as well. We know for many of you, a Christmas tree is the last thing on your mind right now, and we are continuing to look for other ways to help, but if we can bring a bit of hope and joy to your life this Christmas, we hope a fresh Christmas tree can be a bright spot in the dreariness of the cleanup and work ahead of you.

✨️We have absolutely incredible news to share that is sure to make the holidays brighter for the children of Sumas!✨️

🎄Thanks to an unbelievably generous donation from a wonderful community member, Mike, our "Selfies with Santa" event this Sunday, December 7th, from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM will be even more special!

🧤 What Mike's Generosity Means for Our Kids:
Every child attending will still receive a FREE beanie, gloves, and a book...
...but now they will also receive a small gift too!

🥫 Restocked Food Pantry & Hearty Items!
Mike also extended his kindness to our local Food Pantry. This means we will have a special restock of filling, hearty, non-perishable food items available during the event for anyone in our community who needs them. Please feel free to stop by and take what you need.

Happy Thursday!

Today's the big day!

We'll be assisting Washington State Department of Natural Resources with their prescribed burn on Red Mountain today. We'll have our wildland engine and a tender assisting them over the next two days.

The piles will be very visible from the Mt. Baker Hwy in and around Kendall, and beyond. Please don't call 911 to report the smoke or flames visible on the mountain.

This burn accomplishes a few big goals, the first is that it provides invaluable experience for our wildland firefighters, and the second is that it reduces fuel loading in our forest. (So it can't make for a terrible event in the summer)

We certainly appreciate the opportunity to partner with the DNR again, as they're always fantastic folks to work with!
