We spent two nights in one of the most unsettling places we've ever visited: a haunted cabin known as Mystic Pond, deep in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. What started as an adventure quickly turned into a night filled with strange sounds, unexplained voices, and experiences we still can't fully explain.
In Appalachian folklore, there are certain rules locals warn you never to break. Don't whistle at night. Don't stare into the woods for too long. Don't leave windows open after dark. And if you hear voices calling your name from the forest... don't answer.
We broke every single one of those rules.
Throughout the night, we heard voices coming from outside the cabin, strange noises around the property, and felt like we were being watched from the darkness beyond the tree line. Against all advice, we responded to the voices, kept the windows open, and investigated sounds that most people would have ignored. What happened next left us questioning everything.
Was it wildlife? Our imagination? Or something much stranger lurking in the Appalachian wilderness?
