Day 2 at OBX was full of Adventure!
We checked something off our bucket list in Corolla, NC… seeing the wild horses of the Outer Banks 🐎✨
These incredible horses—known as Corolla Wild Horses—are believed to be descendants of Spanish mustangs brought here over 400 years ago. Over time, they’ve adapted to survive in one of the harshest coastal environments—drinking freshwater (from the Currituck Sound ), grazing on sea oats, and enduring extreme weather conditions.
Today, they roam freely in the protected areas north of Corolla, and organizations like the Corolla Wild Horse Fund work tirelessly to protect and preserve them. From monitoring herd health to rescuing injured horses, their work ensures these beautiful animals continue to thrive for generations to come.
Now let me be honest… this excursion is NOT for the faint of heart 😅
Think: off-roading through deep sand, bumpy terrain, and riding along the beach in a 4x4. It’s rugged, it’s wild—and it’s SO worth it.
I loved every single minute of it 🤍
💡 Pro Tip: While this tour is amazing any time of year, summer offers the best chance to see the horses out in more open areas near the beach instead of tucked away in the marsh.
✨ If you’re planning a trip to the Outer Banks, this is an absolute MUST-DO experience.
