’Twas the week before Memorial Day Weekend, and all through Sunrise Beach,
The locals were bracing for crowds soon to breach.
Local store shelves were all stocked with great care,
In hopes that by Friday, some bread would still be there.
The tourists were nestled in rentals and shacks,
While dreaming of no tan lines, pontoons and six-packs.
And I in my office just trying to stay chill,
Had just fueled the patrol car to prep for the thrill.
When out on Highway 5 arose such a clatter,
I spilled my Don Chilillo’s queso, quite the disaster.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Just in time to see someone almost cause a crash.
The sun beat down creating that Ozark-y glow,
And everything started to move in sloooow-mo.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But 40 golf carts with coolers full of beer.
With drivers confused and no sense of direction,
They all turned in at Franky & Louies… to party without objection.
More rapid than eagles the traffic it came,
As they shouted and grumbled and yelled out the same:
“Now Dollar General! Now Clarks Tire!
Now Sunrise Donuts and Littlest Chocolatier!
On Pirates Point, on CG's, on gas pumps and docks.
Where the heck are my Berks and white Nike socks?!”
Then up from the crowd I heard someone plea,
“I can’t find a thing at Woods, not even iced tea!”
So shop midweek, folks it’s your secret weapon!
Unless you enjoy aisles that feel like a stampede session.
And if you're out walking, please do us a favor,
Wear something reflective, it could be a life saver.
If you dart across the road like a ninja at night,
Your walk may become quite a nightmarish sight.
Through boat ramp chaos and BBQ haze,
We'll be out patrolling these wild summer days.
So call if you need us, we'll always respond.
Even if traffic's backed up all the way to beyond.
Stay safe, stay patient and hydrate with pride,
You’ve purchased the ticket, now time for the ride.
If you need us, we’re coming, no ifs, buts, or maybes,
(Just maybe not thrilled to dodge golf carts and boozey ladies.)
So happy pre Memorial Day from your SBPD crew,
We’ll see you out there… Westside strong, Westside true!
