Explored joffre lake in BC, canada this past weekend and wow, was it wonderful.

It was our first time in the area and I totally get why it’s such a popular hiking location. Joffre lake trail is a 5.5 mile round trip hike that goes by 3 lakes and is known for its bright blue waters (although wasn’t as bright with our rainy weather). Other than the beautiful views being a major highlight, access to the park is free and super well maintained! Just be sure to get a permit at least 2 days in advance so that you can enter the park.

Wearing pants in slide 2 with my trusty moabs and top.

Either way it makes for my favorite type of photos.

Made it to our 53rd US National Park: Big Bend!

This park was one of the more difficult ones to visit. We flew to Midland Texas and drove 4 hours to get to the park. These photos are taken at the Santa Elena Canyon trail, and follows along the Rio Grande, the river that separates the US from Mexico.

There are many other trails you can do if you visit, but we had < 24 hrs and here’s a list of what we did:
- Window view trail
- Ross Maxwell scenic drive with viewpoints along the way and ends at Santa Elena canyon
- dinner at el Gordo’s grill
- stayed at Starduster A frame cabins
- Bella bean coffee shop for coffee and breakfast for our drive out

Wearing my rectrek pants per usual and top!

Monte Fitz Roy on the Laguna de Los Tres trail in Argentinian Patagonia.

We took a taxi to the rio electrico trailhead from el chalten and started the 14 mile hike around 6 am and had the first part of our trail all to ourselves! We connected with the main trail from el chalten and enjoyed the nice climb up without too many people to pass and enjoyed this viewpoint here, watching the clouds move, hearing parts of the glacier fall off in the distance and seeing the glacier water below get brighter and brighter.
What a sight!

On our way down to el chalten, we stopped at cascada escondida and laguna capri which I highly recommend to break up the long way back.
Overall mileage for the trail was 14.5 miles with 3200 ft elevation gain—I love hiking but even I was counting down the mileage til we got back to our hotel.

Kept cozy in my sweater and rectrek pants. backpack that held all I needed and hiking boots.

Scenes from the road from El Calafate to El Chalten (the town where most of the hikes in Argentinian Patagonia begin) and maybe one of the most scenic drives we’ve ever done. It’s also the first glimpse we got of fitz roy (or more commonly known as the mountain in Patagonia’s logo).

We opted to rent a car so that we could stop wherever for photos and we are so glad we did! Other options include a popular bus route between each town which most other hikers did, and then a few others hitchhiked.
For those taking the bus, the side of the road on the left when going towards el chalten has the best views!

Some more details of our glacier ice hike on the Perito Moreno glacier in Argentinian Patagonia.

I can’t decide which feature I like most as thinking about a river running through a giant glacier just boggles my mind a little bit. And then you start to think about caves and crevasses and new glacier growth…amazing.

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentinian Patagonia!

Interestingly, this glacier only started to recede (more ice calving than new growth) recently—as in the last 5 years.
We did the big ice tour from El Calafate where we got to see the glacier from boardwalks, by boat, by hiking along the glacier and then on a 3 hr ice hike with crampons. What a cool opportunity to see these different features up close.

Photos taken with and 2nd taken with an iPhone.
