A beautiful family is growing at Boyce Thompson Arboretum! 🪶

What began with a mated pair of Cooper’s Hawks nesting in Conifer Corner has grown into a family of six, including four young fledglings now exploring the treetops.

These remarkable birds are a reminder that even during the hottest days of summer, the desert is full of life.

A few fun facts about Cooper’s Hawks:

🪶 Their short, rounded wings help them maneuver quickly through trees while hunting.
🪶 Their eye color changes as they mature, shifting from gray to yellow and eventually dark red.
🪶 Females are larger than males.
🪶 During nesting season, males help build the nest and do most of the hunting for the family.

The next time you visit Boyce Thompson Arboretum, listen closely. You may hear this feathered family calling to one another through the trees.

Just another reason to slow down, look up and discover the wild side of Superior.
