🎬 Superior is ready for its close-up… again!

Our mountain town has a long history with the movies. Over the years, Superior and the surrounding landscape have appeared on the big screen in films including U Turn, Eight Legged Freaks, The Gauntlet and Fire Birds.

Now there’s another exciting chapter in Superior’s film story and this time, some familiar local faces are stepping into the spotlight.

We love seeing members of our community take on key roles in a new feature film and continue Superior’s connection to filmmaking in Arizona.

A beautiful family is growing at Boyce Thompson Arboretum! 🪶

What began with a mated pair of Cooper’s Hawks nesting in Conifer Corner has grown into a family of six, including four young fledglings now exploring the treetops.

These remarkable birds are a reminder that even during the hottest days of summer, the desert is full of life.

A few fun facts about Cooper’s Hawks:

🪶 Their short, rounded wings help them maneuver quickly through trees while hunting.
🪶 Their eye color changes as they mature, shifting from gray to yellow and eventually dark red.
🪶 Females are larger than males.
🪶 During nesting season, males help build the nest and do most of the hunting for the family.

The next time you visit Boyce Thompson Arboretum, listen closely. You may hear this feathered family calling to one another through the trees.

Just another reason to slow down, look up and discover the wild side of Superior.

Take your time over lunch, browse local shops and galleries, and enjoy a cool drink while the afternoon slows. As the sun begins to dip, head back outside for scenic views, colorful monsoon skies, and an evening that feels entirely different from the heat of the day.

That's the beauty of summer in Superior. You don't have to rush. You just have to settle into the rhythm of the desert.
