An INCREDIBLE shark tooth hunting day! 🦈

People tell us all the time “I’ve been to the beach so many times and I’ve NEVER found a shark tooth”!

I bet they’ve stepped on a billion of them!

They’re hard to spot unless you know what you’re looking for! So here are some shark tooth hunting tips!

1. When you’re walking in the sand, look along the water’s edge of the ocean - our favorite time to go out is an hour after high tide! Then the water’s edge is constantly moving back and more and more treasures become visible for the next few hours!

2. Shark teeth are almost always dark black. They won’t break if you try to snap them in half.

3. Shark teeth are usually shiny - they glisten in the water! Most of the ones you’ll find will be small so look closely and as low to the ground as your back can tolerate 🤣

4. Look for black triangles or things that look like a black 🐳 tail. Message us with pics if you’re not sure the thing you found is a shark tooth - we can help you figure out if you got a real one or a shell cleverly disguised as a shark tooth.

We carry an empty water bottle with us on our beach walks. Anything that looks like it’s probably a tooth goes in the bottle and when we get back to Treat Yo Self, we go through them and toss anything that’s not affirmatively a tooth - and keep the rest! We have a special box FULL of thousands of shark teeth from our magical trips to Surf City!

Once you find a few - you’ll officially be a shark tooth hunting addict! It’s the most fun treasure hunt - these things are between 10,000 and 75 million years old! Cool stuff!

And there’s nothing better at the beach than a seafood boil! 🤤🦀

is one of your “must do” items while you’re here! They provide EVERYTHING down to the steamer pot! Pick your seasoning, your meat, your seafood - and they’ll have everything loaded into the steam pot waiting for you when you arrive! The helpful staff gives you simple instructions to steam your pot back at the beach house and in under an hour, you’ll have a super delicious, fun meal that’s enough to feed the whole gang!

Thanks for the amazing meal, Topsail Steamer! This is going to be something we do as a tradition every time we come down from now on! 🌅

We have been working on this house for months. We make progress every time we come, and we were looking SO forward to the day that at least one room was totally done.

Today we finished the details for TWO rooms! 🤩

The navy and white room might be my favorite room in the entire house. I fell in love with this bed from the second I saw it and the entire room was designed around the brass railing. 🏴‍☠️ ❤️ And as always, I am obsessed with the peel & stick wallpaper from - I can literally spend DAYS scrolling through the thousands (maybe millions) of patterns they have!

We can’t wait for you to be our guest!

One of the neatest things about Topsail Island is that it’s home to Loggerhead Turtle nesting sites.

Turtle Volunteers walk the beach before sunrise every morning, looking for turtle tracks, which lead them to nesting sites. They carefully transport the turtle eggs - placed gently into a bucket in a spiral so they can be placed back in the new nest in the exact order they were removed - to a spot high on a dune with lots of sun so they can incubate and be protected from waves.

About 60 days later, the Turtle Volunteers come back every night at sunset. They ask everyone around to turn off their outside house lights - baby turtles go towards light, and they need the only light they see to be the light of the ocean so they can make their way to sea. The Volunteers build a sand ramp to help the babies have a safe journey to their new home in the ocean. Then they wait for the sand to eventually look like it starts to boil - this is the babies hatching and crawling to the top of the sand, which is a 3-day adventure for the little guys, and baby turtles pop out!!

Crossing our fingers that tonight or tomorrow night is the big night for this special nest while we are here! ❤️🐢

Once upon a time, I saw these paintings online and decided to decorate a whole entire house around them. 🌴🍊

About 7 weeks ago, we got a call on a Wednesday saying these would be delivered the next day to .yo.self.beach.house between 2:30 and 8:30 - 4 hours away. We had to be there to sign for them, so we hastily rearranged our schedules to be up there the next day.

2:30 came and went. And 3:30. And 4:30. Eventually 8:30 passed and I called the decor company. The paintings were lost. 😑 They promised to have another set rushed to us. We hoped the “rushed” paintings didn’t look like finger paintings when they finally arrived.

They didn’t. ❤️

This room makes me so happy!!! It looks exactly like it looked in my mind!! These paintings add so much color and life to Treat Yo Self and we LOVE it!

I can’t tell you how excited I am for our friends and family to stay here!! 🥰 It’s such a happy place that’s so relaxing and fun - we hope everyone who visits here enjoys it as much as we do!

We thought .yo.self.beach.house would look cooler with palm trees than the magnolia trees that the previous owners never watered, ever, and were beyond saving.

Completely unprovoked and on his own, arranged for every dead tree in our yard to be replaced with tropical, beautiful palm trees. I can’t even believe how amazing it looks!!!! 😍
