Legends and Lore at the Castle
With over 350 years of history, there is more to Bacon's Castle than meets the eye. Encounter the all-too-true tales of a cursed family, a secret heiress, a daring rescue by night, and more on this 45 minute guided lantern tour after-hours at Virginia's oldest brick house. Tours begin every 30 minutes from 6- 8:30 on October 24.
Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Vendors Wanted for Surry County Homecoming 2026!

Surry County is now accepting vendor applications for the 2026 Surry County Annual Homecoming Parade & Community Celebration!

Friday, October 16, 2026
Parade begins at 3:00 PM
45 School Street, Surry, VA 23883

This year’s theme is “Country Lights and Cougar Nights – The Country Never Sleeps!”

We invite vendors interested in being part of this year’s Homecoming celebration to submit an application as soon as possible. Food vendors, merchandise vendors, specialty vendors and other community vendors are welcome to apply.

Food vendors are especially encouraged to submit applications promptly to allow adequate time for event coordination and any applicable Virginia Department of Health requirements.

13th Annual Harvest Festival - Chippokes State Park in Virginia

Oct. 17, 2026. 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

We extend our invitation to attend the Chippokes State Park 13th Annual Harvest Festival sponsored by the Friends of Chippokes (FOC).

Celebrate this year's fall harvest at one of the oldest continuously farmed properties in the nation on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Chippokes' Harvest Festival features music and family activities such an antique tractor pull, pumpkin painting, corn cob dolls, corn hole, tractor-drawn hay rides, and an active sawmill site. There will be various local food and craft vendors with a wide array of selections.

See antique harvest equipment in operation and watch costumed interpreters cook on the hearth in the 1850s Brick Kitchen. Guided tours of the antebellum Jones-Stewart Mansion and self-guided tours of the Farm and Forestry Museum are included.

This event will kick off and the show will go on - Rain or shine!
