A tradition more than 1,000 years in the making. 🥍

Onondaga craftsman Alfie Jacques handmade more than 80,000 wooden lacrosse sticks during his lifetime, dedicating decades to preserving a tradition deeply rooted in Haudenosaunee culture and the origins of the game.

Before his passing, Business Insider visited the Onondaga Nation, just south of Syracuse, to document Alfie’s incredible craftsmanship and the tradition he worked to preserve.

We’re proud to share this story and honor Alfie’s legacy, while highlighting the history, culture and traditions that continue to shape this region today.
