A Blizzard Warning has been issued for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area from 10am Thursday through to Sunday. Heavy snow is expected with strong winds that could cause downed trees and power outages.
Do not travel during this period. Whiteout conditions with periods of near-zero visibility will make travel extremely dangerous, if not impossible. If you do need to travel, have a winter survival kit with you, as you may get stranded in your vehicle for an extended period of time. We recommend that you do the following:
🚙 Fuel up your personal vehicle
🫶 Check on your neighbors
🥙 Make sure you have enough groceries for 72 hours
🔋Charge your cell phone, tablet, laptop, etc.
🔥Ensure you have a secondary way to heat your home
📞Call 211 (211 Connecting Point), not 911, for non-emergencies
Do not park on Town roads and right-of-ways. If the snow equipment cannot get through, the road cannot be plowed or will take significantly longer to be clear of snow. We are also expecting white out conditions which may make it harder for our staff to see obstructions in the roadway. Make their lives easier and keep them safe by keeping the roadways clear.
Truckee Tahoe Area Regional Transit service, including TART Connect, are likely to be affected and/or suspended altogether throughout the duration of the storm.
The our team is watching the forecast very closely and will close Town of Truckee facilities tomorrow if conditions deteriorate. We will notify the community of any closures through our social media and website and will remain closed on Friday, as usual.
We are all excited about our first taste of but need to make sensible decisions and be prepared for the impacts of a big storm. Be safe, stay vigilant, and keep warm Truckee!
