Lake Tahoe is a stunning alpine playground where endless adventure awaits in every season. Twelve downhill ski resorts deliver the largest selection of skiing and snowboarding terrain in the nation. Endless cross-country skiing trails meander through snow-covered pine forests and wide-open meadows. Tahoe’s immense variety offers up anything a winter visitor could want — gentle slopes where a five-

year-old can learn to link ski turns, near-vertical steeps that will challenge the most jaded adrenaline ju**ie, or a simple sledding hill where the entire family can play in the snow together. Summertime brings its own transformation. Ski runs convert into mountain biking and hiking trails. Sun-soaked beaches backdropped by mountain peaks attract swimmers, boaters, paddleboarders and kayakers. After a day spent on the slopes or soaking in the sun, Tahoe welcomes visitors to relax at lakeside restaurants, bars and shops. Whether it is a signature Tahoe cocktail, a farm-to-fork meal or a marshmallow roasted at a slope-side fire pit, Tahoe serves up a world-class, choose-your-own-adventure après ski scene. Tahoe is home to twelve distinct communities, many dotting the shoreline like Incline Village, Kings Beach, Tahoe City and the live-music mecca of Crystal Bay. Others with their own unique character await, including Palisades Tahoe, the multi-sport resort at Northstar and the outdoor playground of Donner Summit. Tahoe’s variety is an invitation to explore — whether it is a new ski run, new sport or new culinary experience.

Lake Tahoe’s wine scene feels a lot like the destination itself: the more time you spend with it, the more good stuff you discover. This is a Deep Dive into the places pouring Tahoe a little differently.

🍷 THERE’S ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW TO POUR: At Uncorked Tahoe, rotating by-the-glass selections and carefully curated bottles mean there’s always something new to discover. Their focus on artisanal producers and thoughtfully farmed wines makes every visit feel a little different from the last.

🍷 WINE PAIRS GREAT WITH ADVENTURE: In Tahoe, wine spots can be found close to your favorite beaches, hiking trails, bike paths and ski resorts. Check out the après favorite Petra in the heart of Northstar Village. It’s the perfect place to raise a glass after your last ski run.

🍷 THE PEOPLE HERE KNOW THEIR STUFF: Tahoe Wine Collective specializes in thoughtful, curated wines from boutique producers across California. They have a team passionate about helping guests discover something new—without making it feel overly serious.

🍷 YES, THE DOG IS INVITED: At The Glasses Wine Bar, the pet-friendly patio makes it easy to bring your four-legged adventure buddy along for the outing. Sip wines from around the world, enjoy live music on the weekends and spend some time unwinding together after a fun day.

Tahoe rewards preparation. Pausing to prepare is the first step to unlocking everything here. Before heading out, take a beat: bring water, know your abilities, check the distance, and monitor the weather. Stepping into an experience with patience gives you more quality time, more safety, and stronger memories. Preparing yourself is protecting Tahoe. Take it slow, Tahoe.

If your Lake Tahoe itinerary needs a dash of mystery and a whole lot of Old Tahoe glamour, look no further than the Thunderbird Lodge.

Often called the Castle in the Forest, this 1939 estate was built by the eccentric Captain George Whittell Jr. and remains one of the most stunning residential estates on the lake.

Why It’s a Planning Must-Do:

The Mystery: Explore the legendary secret tunnels (yes, actual tunnels!) and the card house where the Captain spent his evenings.

The Icon: If the timing is right, you might catch a glimpse of the Thunderbird yacht—a world-famous, mahogany masterpiece that is as much a work of art as the house itself.

The Legacy: Beyond the architecture, you’ll learn how Whittell’s colorful life actually helped conserve the pristine Nevada shoreline we all love today.

🗓️ Important Planning Tips:

Season: Tours run from May through October.

Availability: Tuesdays and Fridays, plus select Saturdays in July and August.

Reservations: This is an exclusive experience! Tours are by reservation only, so make sure to book your group's spot well in advance. https://tr.ee/IH9soE
