Roundup of trail reports from volunteers
May 24 and 26 -- Meeks Bay Trailhead -- Trail is free of snow until close to Lake Genevieve, where there are patches of snow. Visitors report a lot of snow above Stony Ridge. Meeks Creek is running strong, but there is not much water on the trail, except for an exceptionally muddy section.
May 24 and 19 -- Glen Alpine Trailhead
Grass Lake -- Most visitors report that they can keep their feet dry, doing a balancing act on logs and rocks despite three creeks running fast and high. Kneedeep on the ford near the turnoff to Grass Lake from Glen Alpine trail, and waist deep on the second ford.
Lake Aloha via Glen Alpine -- Heavy snow and difficult passage between Susie and Aloha made for a 2 1/2 hour journey for one visitor. Sun cups along the way. The microspikes that worked in the morning would be better traded for snowshoes in the afternoon.
May 24 and 20 -- Bayview Trailhead -- Easy stream crossing just before Overlook. Snow covers the trail .3 mi or .4 mi beyond Granite Lake.
May 21 -- Eagle Trailhead -- The stairs portion of the trail near the wilderness boundary is wet with standing and running water, and muddy areas
May 20 -- Pyramid Creek Trailhead -- Mostly clear of snow with running water and muddy trails, trees down (pictured). There is one snowdrift on the approach to Avalanche Lake.
