Same old NuScale? In 2023, a plan to develop the United States’s flagship small modular reactor, collapsed under the weight of its own abysmal finances. NuScale had offered 12 50MW SMRs, then downgraded to 6 77MW reactors. But over the course of 18 years it hemorrhaged $800 million — mostly government (i.e. taxpayer) money — and delivered precisely nothing. Its customers fled for the exits, its stocks plunged, its investor Flor moved to divest itself from the company, and it was sued by angry investors whilst also being investigated for fraud. This week, NuScale announced plans to sell up to $750 million in shares, having generated just $75,000 in revenue in the second quarter of 2026 while running up $64 million in expenses. Nuclear plants need water to cool them. When that's too warm or not available they have to shut down, but even then they STILL need cooling water to avoid a meltdown. This makes nuclear a reckless and potentially lethal choice under climate crisis conditions.

Washington DC – New data just released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), and reviewed by the SUN DAY Campaign, reveal growth of almost 11% in electrical generation by renewable energy sources in the first half of 2026. Moreover, renewables and battery storage are projected to add about 82.9 gigawatts (GW) of new generating capacity in the U.S. by June 30, 2027 while total fossil fuel and nuclear power capacity will fall by almost 3.1-GW.
