There is little else so far that quite so starkly illustrates the fool’s errand that is the stubborn pursuit of small modular reactors than the sorry tale of NuScale. As dramas go, it’s hard to know whether to list it under tragedies or comedies. But after 18 years from conception to (financial) collapse, the story of the VOYGR reactor illustrates with stark clarity just how economically -- let alone technically -- unviable SMRs are and will remain.

An internationally renowned expert on Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR), more commonly known as "concrete cancer," has identified that New Hampshire's Seabrook nuclear power stations' safety is in jeopardy from its weakening concrete structures according to the seacoast citizen watchdog group, Citizens Within the Ten Mile Radius (C-10). ASR is weakening the nuclear power plant's safety-related concrete structures including the concrete containment building designed to protect the region for radioactivity releases in the event of a severe accident. The NH seacoast has a history of earthquakes.

Connecticut’s governor joined other New England governors in a “summit” on September 30 to push for more nuclear power, writes Stanley Heller. Supposedly there’s a crisis, a need for lots more electricity for data centers so they can embrace the wonders of AI.

There’s a crisis, all right, but it’s not some desperate need for AI. Instead, it’s the fires, droughts, glacier breakdowns and extreme weather all over the world –symptoms of collapsing climates.

A good OpEd in today's Connecticut Mirror on the September 30th nuclear energy conference attended by all of New England's delusional governors at University of Massachusetts at Lowell at the invitation of Governor Maura Healey. The gathering sets out to once again recklessly "beat a dead horse" in attempts to resuscitate nuclear power. It's news worthy that the Clamshell Alliance, Citizen Awareness Network and others are hosting a "reception protest."

CT doesn’t need more nuclear power. What we do need is to stop rushing toward the climate cliff.
