lkeetna takes 2 1/4 hours; the drive from the cabin north to Denali National Park entrance takes about 3 hours. Explore the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, including Hatcher's Pass and Matanuska Glacier, just 1 1/2 hours south. Or spend all your vacation time in Talkeetna, where you can raft, float, fish, hike, pedal, canoe or kayak, learn about history, shop for locally-made gifts, sample a different eatery every day, see a theater play or art exhibit, and dance the nights away with live music at the famous, historic Fairview Inn. Our property is in an off-grid location. We are solar-powered and generator-powered. Sleep soundly on comfortable memory foam mattresses in the upstairs loft. Shower and toilet are downstairs. The handcrafted kitchenette is fully equipped with pots and pans, and every utensil you can think of. The two-burner propane stove and little oven are just big enough to enjoy a home-cooked meal, or you can dine at one of the restaurants and beer pubs in Talkeetna. Hello, Mt. Denali! The name Denali is based on the Koyukon name of the mountain, Deenaalee which translates to “the high one” — and it is the original name. The Koyukon Athabaskans who inhabit the area around the mountain have for centuries referred to the peak as Dinale or Denali. Even when the mountain was named Mt McKinley for a few decades, locals always referred to it as Denali.
