Tallahassee, don't let this amazing place fade away. Find a way to sustain it. The circle of development for other purposes is growing tighter with proposals for student and senior housing just across Railroad Avenue from the square are getting serious attention. Let Blueprint, city and county commissioners know what you think. Don't leave FAMU and FSU art programs out of the conversation.

If you walked with me through Railroad Square and enjoyed the tour, you'll remember the outstanding collection of murals. Many of the murals are on the side of buildings devastated by the May 10 tornados. Their future is uncertain. If you want to help the square, the artists and others who worked there recover, please consider donating to a Go Fund Me drive at https://www.gofundme.com/f/poststorm-recovery-for-rrsq-businesses
More than $15,700 has been raised thus far from 253 people. The average donation is $62.

I can tolerate the developer’s plan to build student housing and retail uses. But it pains me to think the murals could go. They add to the quirky character of the All Saints neighborhood.

Thank you all for your support during the Fall/Winter season of Thank you for your support during the Fall/Winter season of Tallahassee Art Walks. Thirteen tours attended by 74 people were completed; three others were rained out. About 25 percent of donations were used to boost publicity on Facebook. The Open Door Clinic and Catholic Charities Christmas campaign received donations. There is $35 yet to be donated to a local nonprofit. If you have a suggestion please reply to this message. A big step forward this season was the addition of experienced tour guide Consuelo Rushing. She and I will determine the 2023-24 schedule this summer. We'll post it here as soon as it's ready. So stay in touch. Tell your friends and family about us. -- Don Ruane, founder, Tallahassee Art Walks.

Tallahassee Art Walks was pleased today to show 13 people from the Tallahassee Senior Center around Railroad Square. Sculptor Mark Dickson took time to speak with group at his studio in the square and show them the latest piece he's working. We split the group in two. One had a short conversation did muralist Kenny MaGuire before he went back to work two stories up against a wall of movie stars. The next group watched his high-ladder performance. Everybody had lunch at The Crum Box, where owner Pete Evart worked hard to take orders and deliver food to his customers. Here are some photos from the morning.
