It’s Monday … let’s go somewhere! How about a little tag along with my client who left today for Japan!! I had the most wonderful time curating the perfect trip for him, and I am so thankful to have so many wonderful excursion partners to work with to make every single dream I wanted to create for him come true. Qué fantástico!!! It has been a Spanish sort of semana!

Yesterday I put the final touches on a trip next month to San Sebastián/Santander/Oviedo. Family highlight is the stop at San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, which those of you who watch Game of Thrones will recognize as Dragonstone. And then I just finished a proposed itinerary flow for a Thanksgiving week in Mallorca/Marbella/Seville and sent it off to the client to review. It’s Monday …. let’s go somewhere! As summer winds down, let’s visit the bayou where the humidity won’t let fall rush in too quickly. I used to plan so many meetings in New Orleans and really grew to love her. So much so that one of my beagles was named Nola! I love the tradition of it. Preservation Hall. Bananas foster and creole and po’boy recipes passed down thru generations of family restaurant owners. I love all the patina’d ironwork and the gates and railings and painted buildings. I love the artistic signs hanging under the eaves of the buildings. And the music. Oh, the music. Jazz that gets under your skin and makes you feel alive or sad or somewhere in-between. Just music that makes you feel. If you haven’t been to New Orleans, I really suggest we make that happen. You’ll fall in love with her, too, and leave full of good memories and good coffee with a face covered in powdered sugar. As it should be.

Helping a couple plan a 25th anniversary trip this November that involves Austria and there are days like today in the midst of the hard and the hustle that God is so kind. What a gift to find myself knee-deep in memories from Hallstatt and Vienna with my Dad. I’m so thankful that he loved to travel with me and weaved himself into so many cities and experiences. And now I not only get to relive this moments over and over myself, but I get to help people make similar memories with loved ones that they can relive them over and over.

Special-opportunity Saturday post for those who want to be part of a once-a-decade sailing opportunity on Viking . There are two routes sailing in 2030: (1) Oberammergau, Innsbruck & the Rhine, and (2) Oberammergau with Salzburg. Both are 12 days and include 4 countries with 10 guided tours and the special opportunity to see Oberammergau’s Passion Play, performed once a decade.

The Oberammergau Passion Play is a performance staged by villagers to honor a vow made in 1633. Also known as “Upper Ammer Vale,” Oberammergau enjoys a stunning setting in a scenic alpine valley in southern Bavaria. The quaint village is best known for its production of the Passion Play, which depicts the trial, suffering and death of Christ. Its once-per-decade staging fulfills a promise that citizens made to God in 1633 after, according to legend, He answered their prayers and spared them from the plague. The tradition continues today and it is a great honor for Oberammergau’s residents to be a part of this powerful, dramatic performance.

Travel that is tied to a cause you are passionate about stays with you in special ways. This week 7 years ago, I was on one of several wild-horse photography journeys that I’ve been blessed to take. This one was visiting the herds of McCullough Peaks and Pryor Mountain. The plight of keeping the American Wild Horse wild is something I’m super passionate about.

I’m so thankful to have spent time in their presence. To feel the ground shake under their hooves as they run past. To stare into the eyes of a wild and free animal. To connect. To soak in wide, open places where the rest of the world melts away. What do you dream of seeing and connecting more to? Costa Rica for sea turtle conservation? Rwanda for mountain gorilla trekking? Baja for whale conservation expeditions? Thailand for elephant sanctuaries? Ecuador for the Galapagos Islands? Iceland or Maine for puffin & seabird restoration? Belize to help restore coral reefs?
