Rippin the Rockies Day 1 | Albuquerque, NM ➜ Taos, NM
Approximately 180 miles | Elevations from 5,300 feet to over 8,000 feet
What an incredible way to kick off Rippin' the Rockies!
We rolled out of Albuquerque under blue skies at 5,300 feet, knowing we had an amazing day ahead of us. We headed north on NM-4, climbing into the beautiful Jemez National Recreation Area, where every curve seemed to reveal another incredible mountain view.
Our first stop was the Walatowa Visitor Center, where we learned a little about the area's rich history before continuing through the stunning red rock canyons and towering pines.
Unfortunately, the Jemez Soda Dam was completely dry. The Southwest is experiencing a severe drought, and it was a reminder of just how much the landscape can change.
From there, we continued through the Santa Fe National Forest, passing through the world-famous town of Los Alamos before picking up the legendary High Road to Taos. Twisty roads, sweeping mountain views, historic villages, and elevations climbing well over 8,000 feet made every mile unforgettable.
A late lunch at La Cueva Cafe was exactly what we needed. The authentic New Mexican food was absolutely delicious and the perfect reward after an incredible ride.
Mother Nature had other plans for our afternoon. We rolled into Taos just as a sandstorm moved in, followed by an intense lightning storm. Rather than fight the weather, we made the smart call to stay put.
Instead, we spent the afternoon wrenching on a few bikes, giving everyone time to adjust to the higher elevation, catch their breath, relax, and enjoy catching up with friends. Sometimes the unexpected moments become the best memories.
To top it all off, I was able to spend some time with one of my sister's best friends, who has also become a wonderful friend of mine. It was the perfect ending to an amazing first day.
Here's to Day 1 being in the books... and knowing the best roads are still ahead of us.

Precision Harley-Davidson for the win!
We called first thing this morning from New Mexico, and Sam immediately got us connected with Vitor. He took the time to walk us through getting the Pan America back up and running so we could continue our adventure.
Thank you both so much for your time, patience, and willingness to help. We know you guys were busy, but you didn't hesitate for a second. That kind of customer service doesn't go unnoticed.
Moto Odyssey is back on the road because of people like you. We truly appreciate it! πŸ‘πŸ”₯
