๐ดโ๏ธ A Friendly Reminder From Your Travel Agent โ๏ธ๐ด
I wanted to take a moment to address something that happens quite often in the travel industry.
Travel agents do not provide clients access to our back-office systems, supplier portals, contracted rates, or industry resources. Those tools are available to us because we are trained, certified professionals who invest significant time, money, and education into our businesses.
Iโve recently had many people try to access my booking systems, request screenshots of my pricing, or ask me to research vacations only to take that information and book elsewhere themselves or not tell me they are booking on their own and Iโm still working on their trip. While everyone is absolutely free to book their own travel, please understand that professional travel planning is a service.
When I research, compare suppliers, monitor promotions, look for upgrades, secure group space, search for hidden value, or negotiate options, that is work. It takes time, experience, industry relationships, and access that the average consumer simply does not have.
Many people believe they can find the same deals on Travelocity, Expedia, Booking.com, or other online travel sites. What most donโt realize is that travel agents often have access to those same suppliers through professional booking channels, PLUS additional contracted rates, promotions, amenities, group pricing, and exclusive offers not available to the general public. Can I always beat every online price? No. Can I often match or improve the overall value while providing professional support before, during, and after your trip? Absolutely.
The biggest misconception is that consumers have access to the exact same pricing and opportunities that travel professionals do. You donโt. Thatโs not arroganceโitโs simply the reality of working in a profession that requires certification, training, supplier relationships, and ongoing education.
If youโd like to book your own travel, thatโs perfectly okay. I sincerely wish you an amazing vacation and all the best. But if youโre asking a travel professional to invest their time, expertise, and resources into planning your trip, please respect the value of that service. Travel agents donโt just sell vacations. We save time. We solve problems. We advocate for our clients. We monitor changes. We help when things go wrong. And we work hard behind the scenes to create experiences that many travelers never realize took hours to arrange.
Thank you to everyone who supports small businesses, respects professional services, and trusts travel advisors with their vacation memories. โค๏ธ
