Since Covid-19 put a hold on the first year of Alliance Adventures trips, one of the co-founders, Dan Enright, has decided that this was the perfect year to attempt to bikepack the entire 540 miles of the Colorado Trail.
This is sure to be a challenge in many ways and also a great learning experience. But it also is a great privilege to be able to take 2 weeks away and use thousands of dollars of gear to travel across the state, a privilege that many of our fellow Americans don't have.
Alliance Adventures was founded in the belief that bikes can help bring people together as well as take us to new places. But we recognize that it is a sport that is dominated largely by white people. In a small effort to raise awareness of the issue of lack of access to the outdoors by communities of color, Dan and his riding partner, Elliot Baglini, have organized a small fundraiser for , a nonprofit dedicated to getting POC outside.
Friends and family have already donated and made pledges for them to complete challenges like holding their bikes above their heads on mountain passes, jumping into freezing alpine lakes, and calling their moms on the trail. Feel free to share any challenge pledges you might have!
This is clearly not the complete answer, and so much more needs to be done to provide more equitable access to the outdoors for everyone. But if you feel called by this cause and wish to support it, please consider donating here. https://www.gofundme.com/f/elliot-and-dan039s-bike-ride-to-support-outdoor-afro?sharetype=teams&member=4942730&pc=fb_co_campmgmtbnr_w&rcid=r01-159408065094-5354ddc0626d4ba3&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_lico%2Bbanner
