Since joining Ryder-Walker as a guide in the summer of 1996, Ken Fuhrer has helped shape the company into what it is today. With a deep love for the outdoors, a wealth of trail knowledge, and a humor that keeps things light and fun, he’s made a lasting impression on the countless travelers he’s guided along the way.

Our last Italian Dolomites trip of the year was a perfect reminder. The trails stay the same, but everything around them changes—the light, the weather, the wildflowers, and even the snow.

You can walk the same trail you’ve walked before and still feel like you’re seeing it for the first time. From Alto Adige through Val Gardena and Alta Badia to Cortina, it’s the same spectacular journey, but every season gives it a different personality.

Big days on the trail were followed by the kind of evenings we love—beautiful hotels, seriously good food, a glass of Alto Adige w**e with a mountain sunset … and of course, and amazing group to share it all with.

Until next year, Dolomites. 🇮🇹

Hike an active volcano. Swim in the Mediterranean. Eat your way across the Aeolian Islands.

Trek across volcanic landscapes with the Mediterranean stretching out in every direction. Climb above the craters of Stromboli and Vulcano, wander through villages where old island life still lingers, swim in impossibly blue water—and sit down to meals that are every bit as memorable as the trails.

This is Sicily at its most elemental: fire, sea, mountain, and food, all packed into a week of island-hopping and hiking.

We’re still smiling after another amazing trip through the Swiss Engadine. 🇨🇭

We started in the quieter corners of the Lower Engadine, where ancient paths wind through meadows and old stone villages. Day by day, the landscape changed. We walked above clear alpine lakes, climbed toward high passes, and watched the mountains grow more dramatic around us. We passed through Guarda, Sils Maria, and Pontresina before heading into the wild Val Bregaglia, where enormous granite spires towered overhead.

Along the way: cows grazing in the meadows, horse-drawn carriages rolling through villages, and a cold b**r waiting at the end of a long day on the trail. We were grateful to share the miles, meals, laughs, and moments with such a great group of people.

Soaring limestone cliffs. Green alpine pastures. Tiny lakes tucked into the valleys. And a trail that seemed to keep finding bigger views.

Our Appenzell to Liechtenstein trek took us deep into a lesser-known corner of the Alps, hiking through the dramatic Alpstein and Säntis ranges. Days were spent climbing high above the pastures, dropping into valleys, and wandering through small villages. Crossing into Liechtenstein, we discovered just how much adventure can fit into one very small country.

We found old traditions still woven into daily life, lingered over good meals and tucked into mountain huts and inns for the evening.

A week of big days, good company, and plenty of moments that weren’t on the itinerary—but ended up being the ones we remembered.
