Howdy everyone! And to all you Christians who say we shouldn't follow YHWH's law, the Torah, you're really missing out this week, because it's the Feast of Tabernacles!
This festival can be found in Leviticus chapter 23, and it's also called the feast of booths and the festival of the ingathering in other translations and locations in scripture. Furthermore, it's prophesied that during the Millenial Kingdom of Christ, all nations will be compelled to go to Jerusalem to observe it every year, and if they don't, they won't get any rain.
This is most Torah-observant Christians' favorite feast. For while it is firstly a remembrance of the Israelites' journey in the wilderness after the exodus, it also looks forward to the marriage supper of the lamb, and we observe it by going camping! We are told to dwell in booths, or tabernacles, for seven days, and we are actually commanded to rejoice! We are in fact told that we can use some of our tithe money to purchase strong drink, and "whatever our heart desires." This year, I even bought some fireworks.
But the feast of tabernacles is, first and foremost, a feast! Seven days, plus the "Last Great Day," so while it's technically 2 festivals (the Last Great Day looks forward to eternity in the new heavens and the new earth), in practice it's an 8 day celebration. So far we've had a Thanksgiving style turkey dinner, surf and turf with grilled mahi mahi and smoked elk, beef ribs, bbq chicken, and tonight we're having chicken cutlets with salad, pasta, and garlic cheesy bread. And yes, we can spend our tithe money on all the feasting supplies. Believe me when I say you non-Torah Christians are missing out, and it's not just the feasts, it's the connection we make with God when we meet Him on His appointed times.
Happy Feast of Tabernacles everyone!
