Help us welcome our newest intern, Javon Tyler, to the Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau!

Javon is a senior at Indiana State University majoring in Sport Management with two minors in Athletic Team Management. He has a passion for sports, especially basketball, which he has played most of his life. He also has experience playing football and soccer. Outside of sports, Javon enjoys spending time with family and friends.

After graduation, Javon plans to pursue his master's degree to become an athletic director.

Throughout the semester, Javon will be gaining hands-on experience with our team, helping with event operations at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, assisting with merchandise sales, and interacting with runners and spectators. He'll also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with social media and content creation.

We're excited to have Javon on our team this semester and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes!

Why do we call Terre Haute "Cross Country Town USA?" 🏃

It starts just east of the city at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

Built on reclaimed coal mine land, the championship course hosted its first race in 1997 — and has since become one of the most recognized cross country venues in the country.

Its challenging mix of hills and straightaways makes it a favorite for competitors, while spectators can see nearly the entire race from the right vantage point.

And this fall, runners from across Indiana and around the nation are coming to Terre Haute to experience it for themselves.

Around here, cross country isn't just a race.

It's part of who we are.

What a great turnout for The Art of the Run unveiling last night!

We had a wonderful evening celebrating the six artists who have spent so much time and effort bringing these oversized running shoes to life. It was great getting to meet some of the artists, hear about their designs and finally see the finished artwork!

The Art of the Run celebrates Terre Haute's cross country history and local arts community. Each uniquely designed shoe will be displayed throughout the community as we prepare to host the 2026 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

A big thank you to all the artists for their hard work and to everyone who came out to support this project! We're excited for residents and visitors to see these one-of-a-kind pieces around Terre Haute!
