The Capital of Christmas! On Sunday we took the train from Paris over to Strasbourg, also known as the Capital of Christmas. Strasbourg is located in Eastern France, bordering Germany. We had a private guided walking tour to acquaint us with the city and show us all the different Christmas markets. It really was as beautiful as you see online or in photos (my pictures don’t do it justice and are out of order, but I know it’s the lights you want to see first 😉)!

A trip to Paris isn’t complete without a trip to the Louvre! If you haven’t been, the Louvre is massive with over 35,000 works of art. Again, I enlisted a private guided tour that not only helps with quick entrance but also knows the way around to maximize your time (though it would still take over 3 months to see everything). Afterwards we went to Sainte Chapelle, which is known for its incredible stained glass.

Yesterday we took the train down to the Loire Valley to see Chateau Chambord (the inspiration for the Beauty and the Beast Castle) and Chateau Chenonceau (first set of pictures are of Chenonceau). Both were amazing to see in person! We were lucky as it was not crowded at all, so we had no waiting to see any part of the chateaus. This was definitely a highlight for us and we would love to come back and spend more time in the Loire Valley (where they have over 300 chateaus!).

Yesterday we had a private guided welcome to Paris tour in the morning and then a private guided chocolate and pastry tour in the afternoon.
One thing I love (and highly recommend) about having private guided tours is they go at your pace and can customize the tour to what you want.
For our welcome tour, it was specific to the area we’re staying in the neighborhood (Le Marais) so it helped us with things like, what to look for when choosing a place to eat, where grocery stores are close to us, how to get around, plus a lot of history in the neighborhood. It’s a great way to get your bearings when you’re in a new city for the first time.
Now, our chocolate and pastry tour was definitely one of Zoe’s favorites so far. Again, our tour was private so it was just us and she was able to customize it to things Zoe could eat, even stopping in the gluten free bakery for Zoe to pick out several treats. I don’t have pictures of everything we tasted but here’s a couple of snapshots, including one of Patrick Roger’s chocolate sculptures at his store we visited (including some of his chocolates we got to taste).

I’m a bit behind on posting pictures (we’re actually in Paris right now) but here are pictures of when we took our daughter up the chateau in Nice (where you get those picturesque views in Nice). And of one of the cathedrals in Nice. You can hike up (or take the stairs up to the waterfall) but they do also have an elevator (which we did take this time). Eric and I have hiked up before and it’s a lovely way to get up the chateau.

After we watched the changing of the guards we went on to the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco which was led by Jacques Cousteau for 30 years. The museum has an aquarium on the lower levels, which Zoe really enjoyed and a museum on the upper levels (which I forgot to take pictures of). We really enjoyed exploring this museum in Monaco and I highly recommend visiting it, especially if traveling with kids.

After Eze, we went on to Monaco. We made it just one to see the changing of the guards (I’ll post a little video of that in a bit). After the guards we got some views of Monaco and Monte Carlo, then went to see the cathedral where Grace Kelly and Prince Albert were married. While the cathedral isn’t that old, it was still beautiful inside.
