The Orient Express is now a ship. Not just any ship: the largest sailing yacht ever built.

Corinthian began sailing this summer, and the numbers barely capture it. Three masts rising 328 feet. Just 54 suites across 722 feet of yacht. Five restaurants overseen by Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno, plus a 1930s-style speakeasy and a Parisian cabaret at sea.

The interiors reinterpret the golden age of ocean liners with contemporary French craftsmanship, and the itineraries are refreshingly flexible: voyages of one to four nights that combine without repeating a single port.

The Mediterranean season runs through October, then the yacht crosses to the Caribbean for winter. First seasons of ships like this become the ones people talk about for years.

The Dewberry might be the most stylish reason to visit Charleston right now, and I'm far from the only one saying so.

Virtuoso just named it the best independent hotel in the world. Add a Michelin Key, a spot on the Travel + Leisure 500, and a Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice award, and the trophy shelf is getting crowded.

The hotel occupies a restored 1964 federal building facing Marion Square, reimagined in brass, walnut, and marble as one of the finest examples of mid-century design in the South. The Living Room bar has become a destination in its own right, and the Citrus Club rooftop looks out over church steeples to the harbor, a view almost no one else in this low-rise city can offer.

You're also perfectly placed. King Street shopping, the historic district, and Charleston's celebrated restaurants are all within walking distance.

Planning a first trip to Vienna? My advice is almost unfair in its simplicity. Stay at the Sacher, because the location cannot be beat.

The State Opera is directly across the street. The Albertina is around the corner. The old city starts at the door. You can walk to nearly everything that made Vienna famous and be back in time for a nightcap at the Blaue Bar with the after-opera crowd.

The hotel holds up its end with richly layered interiors, an art collection worth a museum visit of its own, and the kind of formal Viennese welcome that makes the whole trip feel like an occasion.

Advisor tip: the original Sacher-Torte lives here. Don't stand in the café line with the tour groups; guests can have it served in the Blaue Bar or sent to the room.

That dinner on the beach looks effortless. The planning behind it is not.

A private setup depends on timing, weather, dietary needs, the right table, and a team that knows what the occasion is meant to feel like. The same is true for airport assistance, a guide at the exact right hour, connecting rooms, or a surprise waiting after arrival.

These details rarely appear in the headline itinerary, but they are often what clients remember. I track them early, confirm them again, and make sure they work with the rest of the day. A special moment loses some of its appeal if everyone arrives rushed or hungry.

Tell me what matters, even if it seems small. Those are often the details worth planning most carefully.

Some trips get better after sunset. A glowing shoreline, northern lights, a clear desert sky, and streets filled with lanterns can be the reason to travel in the first place.

Night experiences ask for more planning than the photographs suggest. Moon phase, weather, light pollution, seasonal timing, transportation, and the location of the hotel all affect what clients can actually see. Even an illuminated city garden benefits from choosing the right hour.

I treat after-dark plans as real itinerary anchors, not extras added after dinner. That may mean a late start the next morning, a remote cabin, or an extra night to improve the odds of good conditions.

It's 2026, and I'm already deep into 2027 and 2028 bookings. That's not a sales pitch. That's just the calendar.

The big milestones are driving it. Significant birthdays, anniversaries, one last summer before the kids head off, the trips that mark something. Those deserve the best rooms, not the leftovers, and the best rooms go early.

What's moving right now.

The Eclipse of the Century, August 2, 2027. The path of totality crosses Cadiz, Malaga, Tangier, and Luxor, and places to stay inside it are already selling. Nile sailings around that date won't wait.

The Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 2028. The best places to stay will be spoken for long before the torch shows up.

The 2030 World Cup, spread across Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. If there's a new soccer fan in your household, this is the surprise of a lifetime, and it needs a head start.

And cruises, where booking windows now stretch as far as 2029 on some luxury lines. Festive season, safari camps, cherry blossom weeks: the pattern is always small inventory, fixed dates, global demand.

What makes these nominations especially meaningful to me is where they came from. The Model Citizen finalists were selected by our amazing Departure Lounge back-office and finance team, while Most Helpful was voted on by fellow Departure Lounge advisors. To be recognized by both the people who support us behind the scenes and the colleagues I work alongside means more than I can say.

That viral itinerary saved on your phone was designed for someone else.

Social media is wonderful for inspiration, and I love when clients bring me a folder of saved posts. But an itinerary that photographs beautifully can be exhausting to actually live. Six cities in nine days makes a great reel and a terrible vacation.

So I translate. The saved posts tell me what catches your eye. Then I ask about the things the posts never show: your pace, how you like your mornings, whether you’d rather have one perfect dinner or three good ones, what a wasted day feels like to you.

The goal was never to take someone else’s trip. It’s to come home having taken yours. Let’s design it together.

Clients always ask me when to visit Norway. It’s a trick question.

Summer: the midnight sun, fjords carved a mile deep, and the Lofoten Islands, where red fishing cabins face beaches that look borrowed from the Caribbean.

Winter: the northern lights, dog sledding through silent forests, and coastal sailings past snow-covered peaks that drop straight into the sea.

Either way, the new generation of design hotels and fjord-side lodges means you never trade comfort for scenery.

Two Norways, both worth the trip. The only hard part is choosing, and that’s a conversation I’d love to have.
