Since 1926, we’ve hosted immersive Southwestern treks that foster independence, curiosity, and a profound connection to the outdoors. We strive to instill personal growth and a lifelong love for the environment through meaningful, hands-on exploration. We want to empower and encourage participants with diverse backgrounds to come together and explore their personal growth in a safe, supportive learning environment. We believe Trekkers of any age and skill level can find a place with us if they have a sense of adventure and curiosity about the natural world.

2026 TT was amazing. Young women with a brilliant sense of adventure and community. They came together and formed friendships, discovered their own strength and skill, and dove into the rigorous lifestyle that comes with Trek. Through backpacks, road loops, and Basecamp- these girls shared laughter, songs, and a lot of tasty meals. Who says you can't have charcuterie in the backcountry?

Mountain Desert Trek brings our oldest trekkers out for over 5 weeks of amazing adventure. They are leaders at the Gulch. Bringing their experience (whether from past summers with us, or elsewhere!) and learning new skills to a summer of curiosity, excitement and community.

We loved our 2026 MDT crew, and grateful that they chose to spend the summer with us! Hope to see them back soon!

We have so many memories to share! Here is another WCT Wednesday photo dump from summer 2026!

WCT 1 was a delight- we loved every moment we shared with them! They romped across the four-corners region, starting off with a rainy backpack in San Pedro Parks Wilderness, then a stop at Basecamp, and don't forget visiting Petrified Forest National Park (much drier than the backpack...)

These youngsters had great attitudes, great friendships, and a really great time!

100 Years of treks! This past century of Gulch programs included a pandemic...Not so long ago, we kept up our outdoor programs as safely as possible and got youth out into the field, both with schools and summer treks. It wasn't easy, but we persevered, and now we look back knowing that time outside is essential- in more ways than one! A Throwback Thursday glance at how we rocked masks and social distancing at Basecamp and all over the Southwest!

A Wild WCT Wednesday! WCT 2 was full of adventure and stunning views- and WCT 2? WE MISS YOU!

From Ah Shi Sleh Pah to the Weminuche Wilderness, these trekkers played and hiked and backpacked and jammed out, making friends and memories along the way.
