Route 66 turns 99 today! We've driven portions of the Mother Road on several occasions and had a great time seeking out destinations along the route that inspired places and scenes in Disney-Pixar's CARS.

Why yes, I will travel for cheese! 🧀
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese is an award‑winning, women-owned, sustainability-driven artisan cheesemaking farm in beautiful Tomales Bay. While you can buy their cheese in local grocery stores, we simply couldn’t pass by on our way to Point Reyes and not sample the goods and pick up some personal favorites to enjoy! Their rich, nutty Gouda is ah-mazing, and the Tomarashi is unlike any cheese I’ve had before. The key to the flavor is Shichimi Togarashi, a Japanese spice blend containing chili flakes, nigella, chili powder, orange peel, ginger powder and nori. So good!! 🤤

Ring Mountain Preserve in Tiburon offers 360-degree views of the Bay Area on a clear day. It was windy as heck when we went, but the views were spectacular! Also in Tiburon is the ‘Hippie Tree’ where a short steep walk will bring you to a tree with swings offering what I dare might say are even better views! We did this on a seperate visit to Tiburon just 20 minutes away from where we’re staying. That’s the beauty of living like locals in a place for a while. We can wait for the skies to clear and visit the places mostly locals typically go.

I did this hike with Rowan 2 years ago and desperately wanted Sam to experience it for himself this trip! We’ve been waiting a few days for the skies to clear, and took the perfect opportunity to hike Tennessee Valley in the Marin Headlands yesterday. The views were just as spectacular as I remember. It’s a super easy hike, just over 3.5 miles to the beach and back, with very little elevation change. Highly highly recommended this beautiful hike near Sausalito.

Back in the Bay area for some outdoor summer adventures. Hiked the Marin Headlands this afternoon. Took a steep trail down to Black Sand Beach (which is actually made up of lots of colorful tiny rocks) and found a gray whale skull! We then went out to the Point Bonita Lighthouse and saw a pair of humpback whales feeding just off the coast.
Gorgeous day! ☀️ 🐋 ♥️

This is yet one more reason we make an annual trip to the Eastern Sierra. The stargazing is, dare I say it… out of this world! On a clear night, you can easily see the Milky Way with the naked eye. We saw the International Space Station (ISS) zoom across the sky 2 out of 4 nights we were camping just by looking up at the right time. I love how this photo came out - our tent glowing blue from the bug zapper lantern inside.
