Twenty-five years later, we remember.

We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

For so many Americans, September 11 is more than a date in a history book. It is a day we remember where we were, who we were with, and how suddenly the world changed.

Today, we honor their memory.

We will never forget.

That means eligible families can now use their Step Up scholarship funds for our 6:00 PM Family Ghost Tours!

And this one means a lot to us. ❤️

When we created Past & Presence, we believed there were incredible stories in our communities that simply weren’t being told — stories you won’t necessarily find in a textbook or hear through common knowledge.

So we went looking for them.

We dug through archives, studied old records and photographs, interviewed historians and people with firsthand knowledge, and spent countless hours researching the real people, places and events that shaped our communities.

Then we curated those discoveries into an experience and hired professional storytellers to bring those stories to life.

We’re also a family-owned business with two children of our own. From the beginning, it was important to us to create something for families, too.

Our 6:00 PM Family Ghost Tour is spooky, fun and atmospheric 👻 — but underneath the legends and local lore is something very real: Florida history, community history and the stories of the people who came before us.

🌿 THE ANSWER IS… A. CYPRESS.

There’s a reason the cypress feels so at home among old graves.

For centuries, the tree has been associated with mourning, death and immortality. Its symbolism reaches back to the ancient Mediterranean world, where cypress became closely connected with burial and remembrance—a tradition that continued into later European cemetery landscapes.

But there’s something beautiful in that symbolism, too.

The cypress wasn't simply about death. Its evergreen nature also made it a symbol of enduring life, remembrance and immortality—something remaining when everything else fades.

Which makes an old cypress standing silently over a cemetery feel just a little different, doesn't it? 🌙
