Since Labor Day 1959, the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan closed between 6am and noon to allow people to walk across. I did it last year and it was pretty cool, the bridge does sway a bit but it mostly goes unnoticed. You can either walk all the way across from either end or walk half way and turn back. A word to the wise though, there is no shuttle or bus service to return to your car. So make sure you factor that in. Have you or would you walk the Big Mac Bridge?

Highway 101 is the attraction and let me say, this is not the road trip for people emotionally committed to arriving on time. Driving south along HWY 101 puts the ocean in your side of the road, which makes spontaneous pull offs easier and enable your increasingly concerning collection of ocean photos. Established in 2010, the day highlights the threats tigers face—including habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict—and encourages worldwide efforts to protect these magnificent animals and the ecosystems they call home.
