"An angry local parent is demanding action from Frederick Public Schools, after her daughter’s teacher allegedly used a classroom to call transgender and gay lifestyles sinful.

“When she called me, I was shaking and crying and I couldn’t even form thoughts,” Dawn Snodgrass told KFOR. “I was very upset.”

As we reported earlier, youth in Oklahoma face intolerable discrimination from every direction. This isn't the first report of public school systems in OK failing to protect LGBTQ youth from administrators, educators, students or other parents. In 2018, a Trans child named Maddie Rose was forced to leave the state in fear for her life.

This is why your donations to and elevation of our 2020 Spirit of Liberty award winner Sisu Youth Services is so important. Not every kid in Oklahoma is going to have as loving parents as Dawn's. Even then, sometimes all the love in the world won't protect them from the ills of society. Give ❤ today.

There will be those who'll tell you it can't be done. That's it's too massive an undertaking, or other various "reasons". They'll stand on the sidelines watching you work, offering unhelpful commentary on your progress.

That's the Curse of the Visionary. The supporters are wonderful, the naysayers will break your stride - if you let them. You will face struggle. You will face setbacks. Your plans will have to be revised, they evolve. Consider your project an organic, living thing of it's own. Then let it grow.

We are glad to see Sisu Youth Services, our 2020 Spirit of Liberty Award winner survived the curse and are on mission! Here's a part of their coming to be, read on for more below and check their page for resources, volunteer opportunities and many ways to help.

"The coming together of the whole grand experiment was absolutely miraculous to witness, but at the end of the day, with only a handful of temporary shelter options available for homeless youth awaiting permanent housing, we could never be sure that we’d see “our kids” again the next week. It became increasingly difficult to stomach that we were empowering these youth by day, then possibly losing them to the streets by night. We knew the “kids” needed a place to sleep safely each night."

It is our mission to ensure organizations providing practical resources to LGBTQ+ youth receive the funds required to continue providing necessary services. This underserved community experience homelessness and su***de at disparate rates. The research has been done and continues, yet - turning research into practical resources for the youth in question is another story.

The list of those dedicated to displaced LGBTQ+ youth in the Midwest is, unfortunately, a short one. Our research for such organizations continues as the need for youth shelters providing inclusive space only grows. Thus far, we've donated to organizations in Topeka, Kansas City, St. Louis, and now we reach out to Oklahoma City. The pandemic has created additional stresses on living arrangements across the board, and LGBTQ+ youth, already at risk, have been no less impacted.

Take a look at this map and valuable research provided by True Colors United to see why organizations like Sisu Youth Services are needed, desperately. Please consider giving to SISU, winner of our 2020 Spirit of Liberty Award and finding ways you can assist youth in your community.

With a whole lotta feels we announce our 2020 Spirit of Liberty award recipient. Last year was a struggle for so many, we send our deepest condolences to everyone affected by the pandemic. By the grace of our lovely guests & staff, the Liberty House managed to stay on mission in 2020.

We could all use some good news. The Spirit of Liberty award is an acknowledgment of achievement for outstanding service to an underserved demographic. Accompanying this award, comes a monetary award that is made possible by our Airbnb guests.

We have The Best Guests :) Bar none.

We are posting this time of day specifically, as everybody wraps up their weekend, having processed last week we become introspective and pensive looking into the next. Our futures.

Please include our award recipient, their service demographic, and all the LGBTQ+ youth out there seeking a home, a tribe, the arms of safety and understanding, to see how you may be able to help them as you plan your week, month, year ahead.

Watch the video to see who won our Spirit of Liberty Award! We’re very excited about their work, and we think you will be too!

Stay tuned, this announcement is only the launch of our Spirit of Liberty campaign! This week we will be discussing issues related to LGBTQ+ youth in the Midwest, and welcome them to weigh in. We will be profiling our award recipient, their vital work, reviewing how they did it, and why they dared to do so. We appreciate Those Who Dare so very much! We will also be providing useful educational materials with easy factoids to pocket from the True Colors United organization.

Our Spirit of Liberty campaign hopes to engage support for our awardees, their mission, and to provide information to meet the growing needs of displaced LGBTQ+ youth in the Midwest.

To the young persons out there struggling, we see you, we hear you, and we invite you to participate, please let us know if an organization has assisted you through tough times, we’d love to hear about your experiences and grow our list of potential awardees. We can do this, together.

Congrats to our awardee, and thank you for providing this valuable service.

Drum roll please…
