Saturday, May 8th - History and Lilacs of Rochester

Join us as we celebrate the beautiful lilacs and history of Rochester, NY!
We begin our journey at the George Eastman Museum. The George Eastman Museum is located on the estate of George Eastman, the pioneer of popular photography and motion picture film. Founded in 1947 as an independent nonprofit institution, it is the world’s oldest photography museum and one of the oldest film archives. The museum holds unparalleled collections—encompassing several million objects—in the fields of photography, cinema, and photographic and cinematographic technology, and photographically illustrated books. The institution is also a longtime leader in film preservation and photographic conservation.
At all times, at least three temporary exhibitions on photography and cinema in the main exhibition galleries, the Project Gallery for contemporary works, the Collection Gallery, and on the second floor of the mansion. George Eastman’s historic mansion and gardens, where one can see how this visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist lived for almost thirty years during the early twentieth century—one of only two National Historic Landmarks in Monroe County.
We then travel to the Rochester Lilac Festival. The Rochester Lilac Festival is the largest free festival of its kind in North America, celebrating the arrival of spring with 10 days of live music, art, food, and family-friendly fun. Held annually in Highland Park, a historic landscape designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the festival showcases more than 500 varieties of lilacs in full bloom, drawing visitors from across the country. Beyond the breathtaking floral displays, the festival features a bustling art and craft show, and mouthwatering local and international cuisine. Whether you're a flower enthusiast, a foodie, or simply looking for a vibrant community event, the Rochester Lilac Festival is a must-visit spring tradition.
Before heading home, we will make a stop at the biggest Wegmans in the city that started it all for dinner.
Seats on this trip are $125 per person. Cost includes admission for a self-guided tour at the George Eastman Museum, time at the Rochester Lilac Festival, and bus. Funds due by April 1st.
