Please be careful out there!!
Due to the National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning, Great Smoky Mountains National Park will close all park visitor centers and the following roads for visitor and employee safety on January 10 at 8 am:
-All of Foothills Parkway
-Laurel Creek Road
-Little River Road
-Cades Cove Loop Road (will close at dusk on Jan 9.)
-Cherokee Orchard Road (will close at dusk on Jan 9.)
Several park roads including US 441/Newfound Gap Road, Lakeview Drive, Foothills Parkway East, and Cosby Entrance Road are already closed due to snow/ice, construction, or seasonal closures. Visit go.nps.gov/SmokiesConditions to check the status on park roads.
During the winter, Great Smoky Mountains National Park closes some roadways seasonally for visitor safety. Other roads are subject to temporary closures during winter weather events due to unsafe conditions (high winds, ice, snow). Even though conditions may seem safe outside the park, higher-elevation roads often include steep grades and sharp curves that quickly become dangerous in wintery conditions. At the park’s tallest peaks, temperatures drop swiftly and precipitation is much more frequent and heavier.
