Our typical Florida Summer forecast: 90% chance of rain...somewhere in the state...for 6 minutes — probably while you're pumping gas or just washed your car. 😎🌦️

So no, it’s not raining all day. It’s just Florida playing her usual game of “Guess Where the Cloud Will Spread Liquid Sunshine Next”

In the event we need to cancel your sailing trip due to weather, we will first call, leave a voicemail, then send a text message, a carrier pigeon, smoke signals, an owl, or summon Florida Man in order to get in contact with you. Our shoreside staff is constantly monitoring conditions throughout the day bring you the BEST sunset you'll see all day.

Why do we have red (Tanbark) sails? Back in the days of cotton sails, rot was a critical problem. To combat this, they would be tanned by soaking them in tannins from tree bark. The result was a stained sail called Tanbark that was more resistant to rot, mildew, and mold. The color these sails took on was a brilliant reddish brown.

Then began the age of plastics so cotton sails became a thing of the past, and so has the treatment process of tanning. Dacron is the material of choice for modern sails. Horizon's current suite of sails were constructed in 2022 right here in St Petersburg with Dacron material that had to be flown in from Germany as there was not enough material in the world that came off of the same run in order to match.
