Because Trenton sits almost exactly between New York City and Philadelphia, major touring acts often stopped here for shows.
That meant something unusual for a mid-sized city โ world-class musicians playing relatively small venues.
Here are five of the most historic concerts ever held in the Trenton area (๐๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ!).

Trenton War Memorial โ Nov 29โ30, 1974
Before Born to Run made him a global superstar, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played two legendary shows at the War Memorial.
Bootleg recordings from those nights circulated among fans for years, making the Trenton performances famous among collectors.

City Gardens โ Sept 27, 1991
Nirvana played the legendary Trenton club City Gardens the week their album Nevermind was released.
Within months, the band would become the biggest rock group in the world and change the direction of music in the 1990s.
That makes the Trenton show one of the last small-club performances before their explosion.

NJ State Fairgrounds / Trenton Speedway โ Oct 7, 1973
The racetrack complex in Hamilton Township once hosted huge outdoor rock concerts.
When the Allman Brothers Band played there in 1973, the event reportedly drew tens of thousands of fans, making it one of the largest concerts ever held in the Trenton area.
At the time, the band was one of the biggest live acts in America.

For decades the Trenton area had three very different types of music venues:
Trenton War Memorial โ major touring acts and jazz legends
City Gardens โ one of the most important punk/alternative clubs on the East Coast
NJ State Fairgrounds / Trenton Speedway โ large outdoor rock festivals
Because of the cityโs location between New York and Philadelphia, Trenton quietly became an important stop on the American touring circuit.
