Mortgage Rates Should Be Dropping With The State of Current World Affairs

Why Aren't They?

The US ten year treasury bond serves as a benchmark for mortgage interest rates with a pseudo direct relationship between the two. As the yield curve on the ten year treasury goes down, so do interest rates. Conversely, as it goes up, so do rates. Historically speaking when bombs start flying and war bells start chiming and the prospects of a serious war, one potentially involving the United States, especially one that has the potential to be a world war, investors quickly shift their money from the higher risk/higher reward investment vehicles they typically keep it in to the safe haven of the 10 year treasury bond. But that's not happening right now and mortgage rates are not falling like you would expect to see in a time of great uncertainty. Why is this happening? This article explains it.
