Since opening its doors in 2002, Pierce Heating & Cooling, Inc. has built a longstanding presence in Bendena and the surrounding area, helping homeowners and property owners with their heating and cooling needs throughout the year.
Located at 746 Highway 7, the business provides a wide range of HVAC services, including repairs, routine maintenance, tune-ups and complete system installations. Its services also include air filter replacement and cleaning, as well as thermostat and control work.
Pierce Heating & Cooling specializes in geothermal systems, including installations that incorporate in-floor tubing. For traditional heating and air-conditioning systems, the company works with several well-known brands, including Trane, Mitsubishi and Bosch.
Whether a system needs a seasonal tune-up, a repair or replacement, the company focuses on finding solutions that fit the needs of each home or property. Its experience in the industry also allows owner Brandon Pierce and his team to work with a variety of equipment and systems.
Along with its work in the HVAC industry, Pierce Heating & Cooling has also shown support for the local community. The company has helped provide scholarships for Doniphan County students through Highland Community College, contributing to educational opportunities for area students.
After establishing the business in Bendena nearly 25 years ago, Pierce Heating & Cooling continues to provide an important service to residents and property owners in the region.

Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month: Highland Chapel Oaks Funeral Home

Families in Doniphan County have long relied on Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Located on Main Street, the Highland chapel is part of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home family, which serves northeast Kansas with locations in Highland, Hiawatha, Holton, Hoyt and Onaga.
Chapel Oaks Funeral Home began in 1988 in Holton, founded by Chris Hutton. In 1990, Wayne Leiker moved to Holton to manage the funeral home. Hutton and Leiker later became partners after purchasing Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga in 1993.
The business continued to expand in 1997 when Hutton and Leiker purchased Schroeder Mortuaries in Hiawatha and Horton. At that time, Jay Brock joined them as a partner. In 1999, two additional funeral homes were added to the Chapel Oaks family, with facilities built in Highland and Hoyt.
The Highland location carries local history as the building was once the town’s bowling alley before becoming the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home facility. Today, it is a one-level, handicap-accessible building with a chapel that seats up to 180 people. Brock oversees the Highland location, continuing the tradition of serving families throughout the area.
Chapel Oaks Funeral Home provides families with guidance and support during times of loss. The funeral home offers traditional funeral services and cremation services, assisting families with the arrangements needed to honor and remember their loved ones.
The funeral home also provides additional resources to help families prepare for and navigate difficult times. Plan Ahead services allow individuals to make arrangements and record their final wishes in advance. Veteran Services provides information and guidance regarding benefits and services available for veterans and their families. Grief Support offers practical resources for those coping with the loss of someone they love.
In communities like Highland, businesses often become more than just places of service, they become trusted neighbors. For generations of families, Chapel Oaks Funeral Home has provided a place to turn when compassion, guidance and support are needed most.
For its continued service and commitment to area families, Chapel Oaks Funeral Home has been selected as the Doniphan County Chamber Business of the Month.
