Sierra County in Southern New Mexico is where the past meets the future. To the East is the infamous Jornada del Mu**to, a particularly difficult part of the ancient "royal road" from Mexico city to Santa Fe, known as the El Camino Real. Today this area is home to Spaceport America, the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport. To the West are the untamed Gila and Aldo Leopold wilderness a

reas. In the middle, a veritable oasis complete with two of New Mexico's largest lakes, the famous Rio Grande and a storied city filled with incredible hot springs. The Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway is a great way to explore Sierra County, home to ghost towns, historic villages and even one of the state's newest cities.
