Did you know?

The Tuckahoe River is part on the Great Egg Harbor Watershed, one of the most important coastal ecosystems in New Jersey.

Its tidal marshes provide habitat for countless birds, fish, and wildlife - one of the many reasons we love sharing this river with our guests. πŸ’š

Small and quick, the Eastern Cottontail is often seen along the edges of fields and wooded areas near the Tuckahoe River.

With its mottled brown coat and bright white tail, it blends easily into brush and tall grass. When startled, it freezes first, then darts away in a zigzag pattern.

Hardworking and highly influential, the Beaver plays an important role along the Tuckahoe River.

Known for building dams and lodges, beavers shape their environment in ways that create wetlands and provide habitat for other wildlife. With large front teeth and a broad, flat tail, they are well adapted to life in the water.

With its reddish coat and bushy tail, it’s one of the more striking mammals in the area. Red foxes hunt small mammals, birds, and insects, often most active at dawn and dusk.

Curious and adaptable, the Raccoon is a familiar nighttime visitor along the Tuckahoe River.

Often active after dark, raccoons forage along riverbanks for fish, frogs, and other small prey. Their nimble paws and distinctive black mask make them easy to recognize.

Have you ever spotted one near the water at dusk? 🦝
